Day 33/67 of GED in Five Months, coordinates, and area

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

Adulting must include understanding how complex ideas fit together and affect other ideas, people, places, and/or things.  The Cartesian coordinate system also gives us access to yet another form of language, allowing us to describe the world around us more fully in terms of precise location.

coordinatesArea

Figuring out the area of a polygon in a coordinate plane can also help us figure out other things, don’t you think?

Middle of week 9/18
Day 33 Wk 9

Day 33ExitTix
(Day 32 … Day 34 )

Action Prompts:

1.)   How important do you think mathematics are, especially more complex maths, and how might it help, if you think it does, with Adulting?

2.)  Write a book, story, blog post or tweet that uses those thoughts, and then, please tell us about it! If you write…

Living boldly in the time of COVID

Petchary's Blog

How does one “live boldly”? Being bold is not just about courage and daring. It is also about attracting attention. It is not so much about physical exploits – more about making a statement.

This is my latest prompt from Bloganuary:“What does it mean to live boldly?”

Five years ago, seven Jamaican entrepreneurs received support (including much-needed promotion and marketing) from National Bakery, a well-established company headed by the rather awesome Gary “Butch” Hendrickson. He named them “The Bold Ones.” Like his own company, these seven businesses were all manufacturers. That is one sector that, given the pandemic, needs a boost more than ever, I suspect (apologies for the pun; I’ve had my booster). You can read all about The Bold Ones and find their contact informationat this link. I hope they are still going strong.

So, this is one aspect of living boldly, I guess:…

O Lar é um lugar inseguro para as mulheres viverem

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

Good People Doing Good Things — Stuck In The Snow!

Filosofa's Word

When a sudden snowstorm hit Virginia, Washington D.C., and other surrounding areas on January 4th, the roads and interstate highways quickly became a mess, stranding some drivers for as long as 24 hours in their cars on icy, snow-covered roadways. Today’s good people emerged from that situation.

Life-saving bread

Casey Holihan Noe and her husband John, along with many other motorists, had been stranded on I-95 for over 20 hours and noticed that a Schmidt Baking truck was also stuck out on the road with them.  Said Casey …

“After almost 21 hours of being stuck on 95 South, sleeping here over night, not having access to food or water, and all of the nearest towns being out of power we were tired, frustrated, and hungry. Many of the people stuck out here had small children, were elderly, had pets in the car, and hadn’t eaten in almost…

Introduction to Mutual Aid and hierarchies

LANDBACK Friends

As I’ve been talking and writing about Mutual Aid, I’m not surprised that most of the questions relate to hierarchies. Mutual Aid is founded on a flat or horizontal hierarchy, where everyone has a voice in decisions.

I would highly recommend Dean Spade’s book , “Mutual Aid: Building Solidarity During This Crisis (and the Next)”. Two of the videos he has produced are very helpful. [See below]

My practical experience related to hierarchies comes from the past two years with Des Moines Mutual Aid. My friend Ronnie James is an Indigenous organizer with twenty years of experience and has been my Mutual Aid mentor.

It is widely acknowledged that it takes time to learn how to be in a mutual aid community. We are so entrenched in vertical hierarchies in our society.

By participating in groups in new ways and practicing new ways of being together, we are both building…

Rest-Descanso

Deserved rest

REST

Sometimes the body just wants a break. A place to stop, silence, have rest in the heart’s home, exhausted from the routines, the unspoken words, the frightening silences, the crying nights. A rest, an open place, with wind, with water, with trees and new people. With an atmosphere of fraternity and a lot of friendship. Find people, nature, colors and shapes. A rest is to have a place to…
