Useful news for all to advance knowledge of the world and how it works

wish upon the birds…

Develop. Inspire. Transform.

moon encrusted evening, walking among the fields
of daisies, birds circling in air, like thoughts
running through

veins,
fare and,
attention
made
bare

I dream of other lands, while grounded in the past,
and wish upon the birds, their beauty, at
times

misunderstood…

slowly, I crane toward the sky, their look is a
glimpse of magnificence, we all
should

take into
account, and
be proud of the beauty
throughout

the moments given, each one is sacred, bestowed
upon us with a love that is
thrilling
and

delightful, just like the pink hues look, as they
swallow my past, and take me towards
the present moment

at
last
it is
a stark
contrast…

Anna looked at us, her mischievous smile mirroring that of little Tilly.  They looked at each other, and Anna gave a slight nod.  I was sure there had been a wink of her eye in there, too, although her head was turned away from me.

Little Tilly skipped over to the writing desk, withdrawing a particularly small but official seeming document with great care.  Then, turning to face me, she folded her body into the most graceful curtsy I had ever seen from a child so young.  I glanced in confusion at…

What self-respect really is

Saania's diary - reflections, learnings, sparkles

I remember one day I got back home from school. That day was quite bitter, it was one of those days where I wanted to wrap myself with a blanket like a burrito and never face the world (people)…at least for a few hours 😅.

We may often feel like we need other people to appreciate us in order to feel whole. When I help someone at school and that person doesn’t appreciate what I do as much as they should (or they don’t treat me with the same level of respect), those feelings often bring out the worst in me. However, are they supposed to? Can I ever control that? Why does it matter? What does that say about me?

I stumbled upon a saying: “What we are inside, reflects on the outside”.

Firstly, we cannot expect others to accept or love us if we cannot not accept, love…

The decades of discoveries before the ‘miraculous’ sprint to a vaccine | The Japan Times

Graham had a flash of intuition: Perhaps it would be worth taking a closer look at this humdrum cold virus.

It was an impulse born more of convenience and curiosity than foresight, with little to no expectation of glory or profit. Yet the decision to study a colleague’s bad cold gave rise to critical discoveries. Together with other chance breakthroughs that seemed insignificant at the time, it would lead eventually to the mRNA vaccines now protecting hundreds of millions of people from COVID-19.

The shots were developed at record speed, arriving just over a year after a mysterious pneumonia surfaced in China, while so much else — political feuds, public distrust and botched government planning — went wrong.

They remain a marvel: Even as the omicron variant fuels a new wave of the pandemic, the vaccines have proved remarkably resilient at defending against severe illness and death. And the manufacturers, Pfizer, BioNTech and Moderna, say that mRNA technology will allow them to adapt the vaccines quickly to fend off whatever dangerous new version of the virus that evolution brings next.

Skeptics have seized on the rapid development of the vaccines — among the most impressive feats of medical science in the modern era — to undermine the public’s trust in them. But the breakthroughs behind the vaccines unfolded over decades, little by little, as scientists across the world pursued research in disparate areas, never imagining their work would one day come together to tame the pandemic of the century.

UNICEF delivered a shipment of COVID-19 vaccine doses in Rwanda on January 15, 2022, bringing the total number of doses shipped via COVAX to 1 billion, with billions more on the way.

COVAX, a groundbreaking global partnership to ensure equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines worldwide, is barreling ahead on its mission. Since the rollout began in February 2021, COVAX has delivered lifesaving vaccine doses to 144 primarily low- and middle-income countries, with UNICEF leading on procurement and distribution.
