Ad Astra! But, how do we get there?
Today’s reading discusses Newton’s proofs of Kepler’s earlier laws, based on both observation and mathematics. After all, if we can see it, but don’t know how much food and fuel we need to get there, it might be a longer trip than we thought!
“ Newton’s Principia (Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy, 1687), the foundational work of modern science. Newton used classical geometry and the emerging techniques of differential and integral calculus to give mathematical derivations from general fundamental principles of essentially all the quantitative physical laws known at the time. One of the main achievements was the derivation of Kepler’s laws from an inverse square law for gravity …”

Citrus Smoothie — Tanooki Homemade Cafe

Happy Chinese New Year! (And the first day of Feb 2022!) Although Japan is a part of Asian countries, we don’t celebrate Chinese New Year/Lunar New year. So when I moved to the US and found out there is actually a different new year on the calendar, I thought it’s very interesting. And they […]

Deplorable conditions: Texas National Guard troops call border operation a disaster – UPI.com
A few days after being told he’d likely sit the deployment out, the NCO was ordered to report within 72 hours, he said. If he didn’t, his commanders told him, the state would issue an arrest warrant.
“I had to cancel $60,000 worth of business contracts,” the NCO, who requested anonymity because he feared retaliation from Guard leaders, said in a text to Army Times and The Texas Tribune. His employees all quit.
After “three weeks of sitting on my ass with zero task or purpose,” he was sent home. But it may be too late to save his business. He says he still hasn’t found a new project and had to sell his company’s van to pay his mortgage, car payments and business loans.
“I didn’t want to get out of bed for a week,” the soldier said. “I was unemployed … and [I] felt exactly as if [the Texas Military Department] put me there because of their … lack of planning and leadership.”
His story is just one of many hardships service members say have resulted from Abbott’s unprecedented border security push, called Operation Lone Star.

Utz’s Spanish Tortilla
What’s Cooking in Gail’s Kitchen? Country Casual Cravings: Utz’s Spanish Tortilla! I like to talk with servers at restaurants. More often than not, they reveal significant tidbits about recipe ingredients or preparation that send my mind spinning. For example: Did you know instead of adding hash brown potatoes to an omelet you can substitute potato chips? When folded into a beaten egg mixture, they thicken the omelet while keeping it light and airy at the same time. It’s pure genius. After all, everyone has a bag of potato chips stashed somewhere.
UTZ’S SPANISH TORTILLA

1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon olive oil
4 eggs, beaten
1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Grape tomatoes, green olives, and baby spinach for garnish
