Nel 1801 Jenner (1749-1823), medico di campagna inglese, pubblicòThe Origin of the Vaccine Inoculation, in…

Thoughtful Thursdays, Stayed on Freedom’s Call Page 49/50, and Intersections

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

       How does community intersect?

I wrote this book in the belief that community cooperation is important.  I hope, as we come to the end of my book, Stayed on Freedom’s Call, that this journey has been a valuable one for you (last week was Page 48…):

” …friends or members of my family say “But by the grace of God, there go I.”

It was generally spoken in reference to another member of the community who may have been showing various signs of the stress under which many of us labored, but were somehow usually able to hide. Individuals in difficult situations were expected to attempt to bear up under the strain as best they could, but could also generally count on some level of support in return from others in the community. There was a feeling that all members of the community were…

LA RICETTA DEL GIORNO

Napoli ieri oggi e domani

Dolce al limone

Ingredienti: farina 50 gr, zucchero 180 gr, burro 100 gr, 2 bei limoni, 4 uova, latte 4 dl, zucchero a velo, cacao in polvere.

Buon appetito

Let it Be

From Behind the Pen

Desperate, Sad, Depressed, Feet, Hands, Crossed

I changed what I planned to publish this morning and decided on something more palpable. As I woke up, this song that many of you are familiar with popped into my head. “Let it Be,” recorded by The Beatles in 1970, was one of my favorite soulful pop music recordings back then and still is. I heard Paul McCarthy during an interview when asked about the inspiration behind this song. He noted how at that time, before writing this song, he was anxious and worried about something. His mother saw him tormented about whatever it was, and asked him if he could do something about it right then. When he said he wanted to but couldn’t, she said to him to just let it be, and the answer will come to him. He said that led to a writing frenzy with this song, and it has been…

February 3rd – Shingles Vaccine

Seclusion 101 with AnneMarie

Looking back at previous blogs that I have posted, I came across this one regarding my run in with shingles.

https://seclusion101withannemarie.com/2019/10/29/shingles-vaccine/

Since I wrote this we have had global debate and debacle over vaccines. I understand this, but still felt this post was worthy of update.

While you may be reluctant to get the vaccine for shingles (or anything else right now) I would like to share a bit more information on shingles.

1) Anyone who has had chicken pox, regardlessof age, can get shingles. When I had shingles, and in the weeks after, I heard horror stories from people of all ages, who had experienced this horrid condition.

2) Shingles can erupt anywhere on one’s body. I had it on my face and scalp (particularly nasty as it can cause loss of sight, hearing, and permanent disfigurement). I heard of people experiencing outbreaks on their shoulder, back…

Beau takes on book banning

A few days ago I wrote a post about the recent trend in some states of banning books that educators or parents felt made the children ‘uncomfortable’.  Such books as Ruby Bridges Goes to School and books about Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King have been banned in addition to numerous Pulitzer Prize-winning and classic books like Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain.  But the book that triggered my post was a comic book titled Maus, about the Holocaust.

Interestingly, I decided to purchase Maus, in part to support the book and its author, and in part because I want to read it now, to see if I can figure out what all the hoopla is about.  But, guess what?  Amazon and Barnes & Noble are both sold out of the book.  I found…
