In rural California, the unvaccinated and ill overwhelm hospital staff – Los Angeles Times

It’s no mystery why this hospital in the Victor Valley is so hard hit: Only about half the population in this rural desert area of San Bernardino County is fully vaccinated, meaning they’ve received at least two doses, according to county data.

Many residents in the area also suffer from chronic diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure, which increases their risk of developing severe COVID-19 and dying from it. The combination of unhealthy and unvaccinated is driving the surge.

Over the past week, 163 patients were crammed into the 148-bed hospital. About half of them were positive for COVID-19. Most were unvaccinated, according to hospital officials. The 24 ICU beds and 18 emergency room beds were mostly occupied by them too.

De malinha pronta

Reprise

O gato em cima do muro
Observa o mundo
Põe-se a jeito, no parapeito
O espetáculo está prestes a começar
A vida é um carnaval
E o bicho não perde pitada
Deste desfile bestial
Com os humanos é tudo ou nada!
Riso, lágrimas, choro, gargalhadas
Murros, gritos, coices, pontapés
Silêncio
Um, dois, três
O gato engole em seco
E desfruta do show de uma só vez.

As I marveled at the wisdom of this young child, I just caught a movement out of the corner of my eye.  Anna had given Tilly the slightest of nods.  I turned to her, little Tilly still in my arms, and raised an eyebrow.

She rewarded me with her most mischievous smile.  So, then.  Not only from the mouths of babes.  My tears ended, I couldn’t help but return her smile.  My breast filled with hope, until stayed by my bodice.

All, Some, or Nothing?

From Behind the Pen

You can have everything but wind up having nothing at all.

So often, society dictates our mood, attitude, what we have, what we do, what we accomplish, where we live, how much money we must have to be successful, how many kids we should have, what organizations to be a part of, what schools we should attend, or what we should drive.

In my much, much younger years, I actually bought into that line of so-called “By any means necessary” way of thinking and fulfilling my dreams. Oh, how hard that was. Too much stress and not enough self-evaluation on what joy truly meant to me, and not someone else.

You can have everything, then risk losing it all, and have nothing at all. Just remember,“No one can see your visions and dreams as clearly as you can. Purpose is the key to creation manifested through vision!”
