Amor verdadeiro é uma decisão consciente — Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

É natural a troca mútua, o carinho, o respeito, a […]

Managers, what to do when your staff thinks you’re unnecessary

Darcy Hitchcock

At the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, managers/supervisors were necessary to show workers pulled from the farms how to work in a factory. Over time, it’s turned into a professional class, sometimes with layers and layers of managers managing other managers. It’s so commonplace, you might be surprised that some companies, large ones at that, operate without traditional executives and managers. Employees make major decisions together. (Some of my favorite but dated examples: SEMCO, Mondragon Cooperatives, Johnsonville Foods, and AES until the Enron debacle caused a change in management.)

Covid has laid to rest the idea that managers can’t supervise if they can’t see people working. And a lot of employees don’t seem to feel managers add a lot of value.

In a recent survey of 3,000 American workers conducted by GoodHire, 83% of respondents said they could do their job…

Saturday Surprise — Smiles, Smiles, And More Smiles

Filosofa's Word

Back when I first started the Saturday Surprise feature in 2017, my friend Bushka (who stopped blogging shortly thereafter) was concerned that I might be over-committing myself, and he made me promise that at any given time if I didn’t feel like sticking to the schedule, I would forego the Saturday Surprise post.  I considered doing so today, for there are many serious topics begging for my attention.  But it is those same serious topics that have bombarded our senses all week, and I decided that finding something to kick the weekend off with a smile was the most important thing.  All those other topics will still be here this afternoon, tomorrow, the day after …

So, what follows is your daily dose of cuteness … get those smiles out of mothballs, folks, for I guarantee you’ll find something to bring out a smile and an “Awwwwww.”

These super cute…

Exploring the Naval Undersea Museum

As my family and I prepare to move across the country this summer, we’ve started making our “must visit” list. What places do we need to explore again while we have the chance?

This museum is a definite maybe—it was always a favorite and might be even better now that the kids have had four years to grow. They were all under 8 for this visit. Maybe now I could get some better photos…

In any case, I hope you enjoy this re-visiting of our 2018 visit to the Naval Undersea Museum!

A trip into Washington State’s Olympic peninsula offers opportunities for adventure. From temperate rainforests to snowy mountain peaks to ocean beaches, and from herds of elk to the occasional trespassing mountain goat, the nature-lover doesn’t lack for options.

Of course, most of these options aren’t particularly accessible to those who visit during…

The Animals

Specimen Days

Look at the animals!
They are naked in the world
Resolutely themselves

They take no more than is given
And are proud to be of the earth
And for the earth

They are rich with strength
And delight in sheer being

They do not complain
Or strive for nirvana
They do not feel sorry for themselves
Or anything

Look at the animals!
As they go naked through the world
And learn

Inever saw a wild thing
sorry for itself.
A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough
without ever having felt sorry for itself.

Let’s Be Hopeful

Let’s have hope that things are better ahead. That everything will be alright. Let’s have hope that there is a rainbow always above our heads. That the tough time is about to pass. Let’s have hope that we are strong to stand against any challenge in life and we can conquer the sea by ripping the waves. Let’s have hope that tomorrow is a new day and a fresh start and the pain that we are suffering with will be vaporized with the very first ray of the sun. Let’s have hope that we will achieve our dreams for sure. Let’s have hope and stick to it and carry it along with us every day because at last, it will be the only thing that will help us to see the light in the dark, that will help us to stay for a little more longer when we feel like…
