A Little Hate Never Hurt Anyone? Wrong…

The New York Times reported 9 mass shootings in the U.S. this past week.  What’s Going on?  WHY?

David Leonhardt wrote,  “The closest thing that I have heard to a persuasive answer comes from history. Criminologists and historians who have studied past crime waves — like Gary LaFreeRichard Rosenfeld and Randolph Roth — point out that they often occur when people are feeling frustrated with society, government and their fellow citizens. This frustration can feed a breakdown in societal norms and a rise in what the sociologist Émile Durkheim called anomie.

When I joined the state prison system as a psychologist, women went through training with the men.  The men did their thing and also some of the women. But some of the women burst into tears after firing a pistol at the bull’s eye.  It ws so violent!…

Jury finds Rep. Fortenberry (GOP) guilty on all three charges

After just two hours of deliberation, a California jury found Congressman Jeff Fortenberry guilty on all three charges: one count of scheming to falsify or conceal material facts and two counts of making a false statement to a government agency.

Fortenberry is out on bond until sentencing on June 28 in California. Fortenberry faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. He could also face no jail time at all.

Jury selection in the trial began March 16. The defense called its final witnesses Thursday, including Fortenberry’s wife, Celeste. The jury heard closing arguments Thursday afternoon.

Fortenberry accepted money from a foreign national for his 2016 campaign and then lied to the FBI in their investigation into foreign donations.

Critics of Jackson’s Child Sex Abuse Sentences Backed Judges With Similar Records – The New York Times

all of the Republican critics had previously voted to confirm judges who had given out prison terms below prosecutor recommendations, the very bar they accused Judge Jackson of failing to clear.

Just 30 percent of offenders who possessed or shared images of child sex abuse received a sentence within the range suggested by nonbinding federal guidelines in the 2019 fiscal year, and 59 percent received a sentence below the guideline range. And in general, it is not uncommon for judges to impose shorter sentences than what prosecutors have recommended.

Exclusive: The discovery shows the particles can travel around the body and may lodge in organs

Microplastic pollution has been detected in human blood for the first time, with scientists finding the tiny particles in almost 80% of the people tested.

The discovery shows the particles can travel around the body and may lodge in organs. The impact on health is as yet unknown. But researchers are concerned as microplastics cause damage to human cells in the laboratory and air pollution particles are already known to enter the body and cause millions of early deaths a year.

Ukrainian medics in the crossfire | openDemocracy

Ukrainian healthcare workers have been working around the clock since Russia invaded the country on 24 February – and in unimaginable conditions. According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Health, by 16 March, Russian forces had attacked 43 ambulances and 117 hospitals. Ten of these hospitals cannot be repaired, Ukrainian officials stated.

Two weeks ago, Russian forces attacked a maternity hospital in Mariupol – the images of two pregnant women who were injured spread around the world. One of the women died, but the second gave birth to a girl, Veronika. Births in bomb shelters have become common, as have doing operations and evacuating seriously ill patients while under Russian shelling.
