A Bitter Pill to Swallow

From Behind the Pen

To forgive or not to forgive, that is the question? This week the topic of forgiveness has been one of the most popular subjects to be researched and thought about, especially as we head towards Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. I can’t lie, it took me a while to understand why I needed to forgive those individuals who did something to me that also attacked my spirit throughout the years. But, as I think about the overall lesson of forgiving people who attack, dehumanize, and try to destroy you, this is a tough decision that involves courage, understanding, compassion, and well, love. You know, at first, I couldn’t understand why I needed to do this. Just stay away from those folks who hurt you right? Wrong. Sometimes those folks may live with you or around you. They may be family, and well, that could turn out to…

Things That Make Filosofa Grrrrrrowl | Filosofa’s Word

I could only shake my head when reading the following headline … Six Deaths Linked To Drug Overdoses In Northeast Washington … but probably not for the reason you are thinking.  While I have empathy for the families of those six people, in just the last three days, there have been 117 reported gun deaths,…

Gedicht #34

Courir écrire et crier

d’une même foulée la même allure ultime folie
à l’heure pour que ça dure
facile à faire le souffle-t-elle
amie intime amante vibrante
envoyons valser
dansons
à mi-chemin

Not Ready for the End Game — Why Ending Federal Covid-19 Emergency Declarations Will Harm Access to Care | NEJM

When protesters call for an end to the Covid-19 emergency, they’re asking for a return to normalcy. Responding literally, as the Senate recently did in voting to terminate the declaration under the National Emergencies Act, won’t change the controversial requirements that drive opposition but will disrupt care and waste the opportunity for permanent implementation of the new systems that have proved successful. Brazil’s largest indigenous reservation overrun by illegal gold mining, says report

An illegal gold mining boom on Brazil’s largest indigenous reservation has brought disease, violence and grave human rights violations on the Yanomami people, according to research and allegations included in a new report on Monday, blaming high gold prices and tacit government support. The report by the Hutukara Yanomami Association found a 46% rise in wildcat mining last year on rivers in the reservation where some 29,000 Yanomami live in northern Brazil, threatening isolated communities with little or no other outside contact. Under far-right President Jair Bolsonaro, who has argued for more mining on indigenous land, law enforcement has failed to curb the growing invasion of Yanomami land.
