Somewhere in the Universe, there may be an alien civilization with which we could make contact. If it exists, this conversation may seem unlikely, but the hypothesis is not just a science fiction plot: some scientists are dedicated to the mission of giving ETs a hello, even before detecting any intelligence somewhere in the infinite.
The most recent project in this regard is the Beacon in the Galaxy (BITG) – in free translation, “lighthouse in the galaxy” -, planned by the research group Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence (METI), “messages for extraterrestrial intelligence”.
BITG is a message formulated by an international team of scientists, with diverse information about life on Earth, written in binary code – sequences of 0 and 1 that constitute, for example, the language from which your computer displays and processes the texts and images on this page.
