French Fridays, Libraries, and Empathy for Ants?

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

Libraries are where the librarians, who find obscure bits of local knowledge, and make great book recommendations live!  This book is among the best books I have read, but I must say that the rule of the first holds: the rest of the books in the series went downhill.  Werber’s other books, too, were interesting from a philosophical point of view, but increasingly irritating as metaphysical works.  This one, however, I am half considering reading again!

-back in 2015:

Les Fourmis (La saga des fourmis, #1)Les Fourmis by Bernard Werber
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Don’t kill any more ants!!
This book is worth learning French to read. Honestly. It had me worrying for the fate of an ant by page 40! Fascinating swap of perspectives, and hair-raising cliff-hanger ending. I have the 3rd book in this trilogy, but am anxiously waiting to get the 2nd from the library!

Ne tuez plus de fourmis !

मां की पुकार / Mother’s Call

Kaushal Kishore

हमारी मां तो
आज भी बुला रही है

Our mother is
calling us even today
with great love in her lap,

that her lap has started
falling short for us…

P.S.This is a small tribute to mother earth on World Earth Day.

Mixed COVID-19 signals? Omicron BA.2 variant is in Jamaica, and there are questions about timing

Petchary's Blog

I had asked whether we are “over” COVID-19 in Jamaica, since as of April 15 all remaining restrictions related to the pandemic have lapsed – including travel restrictions and mandatory mask wearing indoors.

Well, we are not quite over it, after all. I think we could have seen this one coming. Or did we know sooner? In fact, the new Omicron variant BA.2 has been in Jamaica since at least March 4, by the Government’s own admission.

I might add this question: Did we know that we had BA.2 variant on the island before the COVID-19 restrictions were completely lifted, on the eve of the non-stop-partying Easter holiday weekend?

In fact, Barbados reported cases of the Omicron BA.2 variant last week (April 14): 90 percent of their samples contained the variant, after Barbados sent them to the lab in Trinidad, which usually takes quite some time to get results. They…
