According to Andriy Niebytov, Head of the Kyiv Regional Police, a pit was found on 29 April in the Bucha raion, with the bodies of three men whom the Russian soldiers first tortured, and then killed. He says that the victims were tortured for some time, with bullet wounds to their limbs, before finally being killed through shots in the ear. The victims had their hands tied and were blindfolded, with one man also having a gag in his mouth. The bodies are so disfigured that they could not be identified. The police are in no doubt that the Russians were responsible, and believe they tried to conceal their crime by throwing the bodies into a pit and covering them with soil. Ariano Suassuna
Sem lei nem Rei, me vi arremessado
bem menino a um Planalto pedregoso.
Cambaleando, cego, ao Sol do Acaso,
vi o mundo rugir. Tigre maldoso.
O cantor do Sertão, Rifle apontando,
vinha malhar seu Corpo furioso.
Era o Canto demente, sufocado,
rugindo nos Caminhos sem repouso.
E veio o Sonho: e foi desperdiçado!
E veio o Sangue: o marco iluminado,
a luta extraviada e a minha grei!
Tudo apontava o Sol! Fiquei embaixo,
na Cadeia que esteve e em que me acho,
a Sonhar e a cantar, sem lei nem Rei!
Ariano Suassuna. A infância

Around and Around We Go (IMPORTANT UPDATE)
We have a hepatitis outbreak among children in the US, UK, Canada and Japan, and now an additional 12 countries. This is a serious disease with a risk of permanent liver damage or death to the victim.
Hepatitis is usually caused by a virus, but at this point, scientists are uncertain as to which virus to blame. Current thinking points to a version of the adenovirus as the culprit. This is the virus that triggers the common cold. Some of the cases, but not all, have been shown to be infected with Adenovirus Type 41. Some also had Covid.
This type of hepatitus is new, and doesn’t match versions (A. B. C. D or E) that doctors have seen to date. That is, tests for standard hepatitis versions will be negative. Thus most of these cases up to now have been classified by hospitals as “unexplained liver injury.”

I was a marathon runner with killer biceps – long Covid has stopped me in my tracks | Rose George | The Guardian
I ran 30 miles a week. I could turn up to a 20-mile fell race on inadequate training and run it, thoughtlessly. I did yoga, weight training and cycling. I had a low resting heart rate and strong biceps. For a 52-year-old menopausal woman, I was in extremely good shape.
But then on 3 January I fell ill with a sore throat, then flu-like weakness, a cough that hasn’t left me since, and a constant and persistent headache that is resistant to every painkiller. In the months since, I have been not ill, but not well. I have days of feeling fine, and then I don’t. As a runner, I can say that long Covid feels like the wall at mile 18 in a marathon, when suddenly your energy has gone, and you feel like a different person and you don’t know why.

Defecting online: How Myanmar’s soldiers are deserting the army – BBC News
Mr Lay is now a part of the organisation to which he once turned. He works remotely from a “liberated area” – one of the regions controlled by rebels, where minority ethnic groups are concentrated and the civilian National Unity Government (NUG) holds sway.
He described to me how Facebook and Telegram were central to both his awakening from what he calls “years-long brainwashing” and his escape.
People’s Embrace has more than 100,000 Facebook followers. Would-be defectors who make contact online are vetted, and those who are successfully extracted are provided with food, shelter, security and a stipend.
“If friends [of defectors] want to leave the military, they pass the link to each other,” he says.
The key role that social media plays in the defector pipeline is just the latest twist in the unusual and often troubling use of technology in the modern history of Myanmar.

Risking jail and church ire, Russian priests condemn Ukraine conflict | The Japan Times
The white-bearded priest in a black cassock is one of the few Russian Orthodox priests to have spoken out against Moscow.
In a quavering voice, but without hesitation, he explains: “I’m afraid I am a bad priest. I’ve never been against all wars but I’ve always been against any land-grabbing, aggressive war.”
Ukraine “is an independent state and let them build their state as they see necessary,” he says at his home in the hamlet of Novo-Bely Kamen on the banks of the River Volga in the Kostroma region, a six-hour drive from Moscow.
Since Russia launched its military action on Feb. 24, only a handful of priests from the Russian Orthodox Church led by Moscow Patriarch Kirill — which counts some 150 million believers across the world — have spoken out openly against the Kremlin’s military campaign.
