Russian invaders destroy 97-year-old Ukrainian WWII veteran’s home
While Russia prepares a grandiose display of military firepower in Moscow for the 77th anniversary of Victory Day, its soldiers are aiming their firepower against Ukrainian World War II veterans, Holocaust survivors and other civilians. 97-year-old Ivan Lysun from Zolochiv, in the Kharkiv oblast, has been left with his jacket and the many medals he received for courage and his military service when he fought, together with Russians, against the Nazi invaders, and very little else.
In the early hours of 4 May, Russian shelling almost totally destroyed the house which, as a small lad, Ivan Lysun tried to help his father build. Most of it has been turned into rubble, and it is a miracle that he survived.

Lesson Day 10/67, Plus: Snow Riots, and Heroes Escaping Gatekeepers…
Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better
This week we revisit an updated Lesson Plan 10 of 67 in our GED/HiSET series, and then, we see how the very first race riot in the USA took place, right in the District of Columbia, and how that relates to gatekeepers, but before that, a quick word about Isaias:
We have finally met the hero of Who By Fire:
I Will, Isaias, an escaped slave, now a fugitive from the law, in 1838. But, how did he escape? Well, we can’t let the cat out of the bag entirely, can we? A hint: it has to do with these riots we mentioned a second ago.
In reflecting on my time as a tour creator in DC, and wondering how slavery still influences us, today. I loved giving the first tour of my Underground Railroad and Black History series Singing Community Cooperation

Digital Pan African Heritage Museum Launched in Ghana
In November 2015, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) declared May 5 as African World Heritage Day. IRIE FM is the only media house in Jamaica that consistently acknowledges the day, as far as I can tell. Two Sundays ago, Ka’Bu Ma’at Kheru, revolutionary host of the popular ‘Running African’ show, interviewed Hon Kojo Yankah, founder and executive chairman of Ghana’s Pan African Heritage Museum. He highlighted the fact that a digital version of the museum was going to be launched on African World Heritage Day.

The museum was launched virtually in September 2020. Construction of the physical building has started and should be completed by August 2023, in time for another significant date. In December 2020, UNESCO proclaimed August 31 as The International Day for People of African Descent. Thanks to Marcus Garvey! That was the date in 1920 on which Garvey’s month-long International Convention of…

I Thought We Were Better …
In countries like Russia, China, Saudi Arabia and many others, one man or group of men (it’s always men, never women) control the people, their actions & behaviours. But in a democracy, a true democracy, it is the voice of the majority that determines the laws of the land. The United States was founded as a Democratic Republic, which is somewhat different than a pure democracy. In a pure democracy, laws are made directly by the voting majority leaving the rights of the minority largely unprotected. In a democratic republic, laws are made by representatives chosen by the people and must comply with a constitution that specifically protects the rights of the minority as well as those of the majority.
Today in the United States, it is the will of the minority that is trampling all over the rights of the majority. The majority of people (60%) in the…
