A climate-friendly greenhouse goes up in East Boston | WBUR News
The greenhouse will also be a climate solution, diverting rain to irrigate plants and help prevent flooding in the neighborhood. It will use green electricity through the City of Boston Community Choice Energy program, and be heated and cooled with geothermal wells sunk 455 feet into the ground. Schools Reinstate Mask Mandates as COVID-19 Cases Rise | Time
The Providence school district tracked about 60 COVID-19 cases per day last week among staff and students—a dramatic increase from a low of about 10 cases per day in March and early April, according to district data. “The additional mitigation layer of masking will help us manage this new COVID surge and keep more students in the classroom where they learn best,” Javier Montañez, superintendent of Providence schools, said in a statement on Monday. Philadelphia schools also resumed a mask mandate “to help protect everyone’s health and well-being as COVID-19 case counts continue to rise in the Philadelphia area,” superintendent William Hite said in a statement. And Brookline, Mass. reinstated an indoor mask mandate in all town-owned buildings, including public schools. The decision came after public health officials compared COVID-19 cases in Brookline public schools to cases in other Massachusetts school districts that had maintained mask requirements and concluded that “a temporary reinstatement would be an important mitigation measure to limit disease spread and reduce disruptions due to student and staff absenteeism.”

Uvalde Live Updates: 2 Police Officers Were Reportedly Shot Early in Gunman’s Rampage – The New York Times
At that point, they fell back as the shooting continued inside the classroom, according to the timeline.
He continued shooting through the wall and door at law enforcement who were arriving outside the classroom. It was during those minutes, law enforcement officials believe, that the gunman, identified as Salvador Ramos, killed most if not all of the children inside adjoining classrooms. There was sporadic gunfire from the suspect until a tactical team arrived and killed him around 1 p.m., according the timeline.
Labour Day in our neighbourhood: Trash, trucks – and teamwork!
I confess that I used to be rather cynical about Labour Day. It seemed like a bit of a PR stunt for political leaders, who pose from various angles while planting a tree, or painting a wall for five minutes.
Well, on Monday, May 23 we still had some of that. Both Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Opposition Leader Mark Golding gave us Labour Day Messages, and both did some work in Mandela Park, a much-neglected area in the middle of Half Way Tree. I disagree with the Prime Minister that perhaps the Park should be moved elsewhere. It’s in an extremely busy area. All it needs is some TLC, on a regular basis. It’s good to have a spot like this in a busy place – but it must be maintained and cleaned on a regular basis.

significant value in letting nature be our educator. Whenever I would take my students outside, new questions, observations and connections would arise. This led me to be flexible in my lessons and let the students’ inquiries shape our learning. 89 more words What can we learn from the trees? — National Geographic Education Blog

Reason for Living (or Non-living)

“I’m going to shoot my grandmother.”
“I’ve shot my grandmother.”
“I’m going to shoot an elementary school.”
These are the three messages on Facebook sent by the 18-year old Texas gunman who was shot dead before he could send his fourth message. But before that he killed 19 children and two teachers.
This is the latest bout of gun-fueled mass murder in the United States, but surprisingly President Joe Biden blamed the gun laws for mass shootings. I’m at a loss who frames the laws. Today the ratio of 120.5 firearms per 100 residents of United States is the highest around the world. Is it not alarming?

The political angle must always be there. Gun lobbies may also be there. But the rationalists advocate a culture of freedom and liberalism. They say that this sort of incident is just a symptom, and not the disease. The root cause is a…
