‘The world is bloody messy’: Jacinda Ardern urges end to ‘black-and-white’ view of global conflict | New Zealand | The Guardian
“The honest reality is that the world is bloody messy. And yet, amongst all the complexity, we still often see issues portrayed in a black and white way,” she said. “We must not allow the risk of a self-fulfilling prophecy to become an inevitable outcome for our region.”
She also called for countries not to become myopically focused on military security, and miss the major threat that climate change and economic fragility posed to the Pacific.
“While we all have a concern – and rightly so – about any moves towards militarisation of our region, that must surely be matched by concern for those who experienced the violence of climate change,” she said.
“What happens in the Indo-Pacific Region impacts our entire neighbourhood. It follows that we must strengthen the resilience of the Indo-Pacific through relationships, and importantly, economic architecture.”
As she charted New Zealand’s approach to trying to pursue “independent foreign policy” as a small player in an intensely pressured environment, Ardern re-articulated the country’s commitment to multilateral institutions – but also reflected on their recent failures. There was “no better example of that than the failure of the UN to appropriately respond to the war in Ukraine because of the position taken by Russia in the security council”, she said, describing it as “a morally bankrupt position on their part, in the wake of a morally bankrupt and illegal war”.
Let Go
We can’t dwell on the why’s, the if’s and the but’s. We have to let go of our past mistakes and shortsightedness, be present at all times in every decision we make or action we take, resolving to act intentionally and with loving kindness at all times.

New Vaccine Could Offer Protection Against A Wide Range Of Coronaviruses | LAist
Instead, Cal Tech scientists are using a mosaic nanoparticle with pieces of spiked proteins from eight coronaviruses to trigger the immune system, making cross-protective antibodies capable of fighting off multiple viruses.
Lead researcher Pamela Bjorkman said testing in monkeys and mice produced a broad immune response, even protecting against a coronavirus that was not in the eight included in the nanoparticle vaccine.

Windjammerparade Juni 2022

My Daughter Ran. My Father Was Shot. I’ll Never Forget the Strangers Who Helped Us. – Mother Jones
My nine-year-old daughter got up and ran, and my dad stood up. At that point, he got hit in the shoulder with—we still don’t actually know what’s in there, some type of either shrapnel or debris. We don’t know if it was something that was from the bullet itself or something that bullet hit and then shot up from the ground, like a piece of concrete. So we all started looking for cover. My daughter ran away, I’m trying to get my dad to get down. He was a little too far away for me to get there without going through an open space. The person next to him helped him get to the ground. My dad is 89, and he can get down on the ground but is a little bit slower.
I didn’t know where my daughter ran off to. She later told me she found a hiding spot and then, immediately after, found my sister. They started running back to my mom’s house. I can never thank my sister enough for taking my daughter back.

“I cannot stand with party leaders who double down in their support of the NRA after yet another mass shooting; who applaud the decision to take away a woman’s right to choose and who encourage the elimination of LGBQ rights; and who still believe that Donald Trump is their president,” wrote Giambra in his explanation for why he is changing his party affiliation.
