Filosofa's Word

For some reason, I have been in ‘Beatles mode’ of late, and the other night, this one popped into my head unbidden.  I searched the archives, found I had played it back in 2019, and decided the time is just about right for a redux!

One of the political cartoons I posted yesterday put this song into my head, and you guys know what happens when a song gets stuck in my head!  It’s been bouncing around in there all day, and, as I only know bits and pieces of the lyrics, I keep making my own as I go along!  Sometimes that can be rather interesting, actually.

George Harrison wrote this in Eric Clapton’s garden using one of Clapton’s acoustic guitars. When the Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein died in 1967, the band had to handle more of their accounting and business affairs, which Harrison hated. He wrote this after…

Can We Talk?

From Behind the Pen

BEFORE TALKING: Please connect the tongue to the brain. -Anonymous

How did we get to the point where civil conversations have become chaotic confrontations? We have seen the fabric of humanity ripped to shreds for reasons that don’t make a lick of sense. Everybody is right, and no one is wrong. Where is the compromise that displays human decency? If we can speak with each other instead of talking over one another or insisting on being confrontational, perhaps we can come to understanding to respect each other, even if we agree to disagree.

Can We Talk

What happened to the art of communication
where problems were solved by talking
where ideas were shared through collaboration
where pain was pacified
through the comfort of words
where lessons were learned
by listening to instruction
where eye contact was made while talking

Community solar: get solar without the panels

Darcy Hitchcock

Putting solar panels on your house is great, if you can afford it. But what if you rent, or the roof faces the wrong direction, or your house is in the trees? Community solar is an elegant and more equitable solution.

One of the largest expenses for a household array is the inverter (which converts DC to AC, direct to alternating current) so there are efficiencies to having a larger array serving multiple households in the community with one inverter than each household buying their own.

What is community solar

Here’s a simple example. Your neighborhood school or church has lots of roof but no budget for a solar array. With community solar, households and local businesses can sign up to get a portion of electricity from an array that is put on the building by a developer.

At the end of last year, 39 states and Washington, D.C., had…

A Voice from Iran

“130th story”

First published: Feb.20.2020

Rasool was a little boy when they moved from their village to the city of Shiraz.

He was a tall boy but always sat in the first row in his classroom just because it was the only way for him to see the blackboard.

Most of the time in the house, he kicked objects without intention.

His parents always accused him of being clumsy and stupid. Every time he wanted to move into the house, he tried to be more careful, but the same clumsiness kept happening.

slipping-154577_640

Life was the same for him for years.

When he was in junior high, one of his mother’s friends visited them from their village to stay for a week. She was a delightful lady with a great attitude. After dinner, she brought a book out of her purse and a pair of glasses. In those days, not many…
