Jamaicans for Justice launch a booklet of our Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms – made simple

Petchary's Blog

As I mentioned, Jamaica is currently recognizing – and in most cases, celebrating – its 60th anniversary of Independence. This is such a large, round number that special attention is being paid to “Jamaica 60.” What progress has been made in the past six decades since the flag of the “Coloniser” descended a flagpole in Kingston at midnight on August 5, 1962 (more about how Jamaica’s national flag was chosenhere).

By the way, the word “colonising”was used by Senator Lidia Thorpe, an indigenous Australian parliamentarian recently to describe Queen Elizabeth II, as she was sworn in with a clenched fist held high. She was interrupted and told to stick to the script of her oath of allegiance, which she eventually did – albeit in a sarcastic tone of voice. She had made her point, anyway.

Back to “decolonized” Jamaica. Perhaps this large number 60 has prompted some…

More than 18,000 refugees have crossed Channel in small boats this year – MoD | Immigration and asylum | The Guardian

Me: Fake Tory scare issue it seems. In 2021, 573,000 people migrated into the UK and 334,000 people emigrated from it, leaving net migration of 239,000 people. This represents the balance of long-term migrants moving in and out of the country. (https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/sn06077/#:~:text=In%20the%20year%20ending%20June,net%20migration%20of%20239,000%20people.)

573,000 moving in compared to 18,000 boat people… That makes it a made up fear and anti-people of color issue, does it not?

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

Em atitudes e em ritmos fleumáticos,

Erguendo as mãos em gestos recolhidos,

Todos os brocados fúlgidos, hieráticos,

Em ti andam bailando os meus sentidos…

E os meus olhos serenos, enigmáticos,

Meninos que na estrada andam perdidos,

Dolorosos, tristíssimos, extáticos,

São letras de poemas nunca lidos…

As magnólias abertas dos meus dedos

São mistérios, são filtros, são enredos

Que pecados d’amor trazem de rastos…

E a minha boca, a rútila manhã,

Na Via Lactea, lírica, pagã,

A rir desfolha as pétalas dos astros!..

A BIT OF OPTIMISM

When what is happening is happening, and you are involuntarily part of it all, and you can’t change anything, and your loved ones / relatives are part of it all, to a large extent embraced by madness, your hands are involuntarily lowered.

And at the same time, let’s look at the story. About 100-200 years ago, all this madness was the rule rather than the exception. Now there are several states that are in this paradigm. And a huge number of people who understand that this is an anachronism.
