Afghan Man Charged in Muslim Killings Was Headed for Texas – The New York Times

An Afghan man accused of killing two Muslim men in Albuquerque was driving to Texas when he was arrested, and the police said they found a bullet casing in his car that matched those found at one of four crime scenes around the city.

A police detective wrote in a criminal complaint that the suspect, Muhammad Syed, 51, who himself is Muslim, denied that he had anything to do with any of the four killings that have shaken Muslims in Albuquerque, New Mexico’s largest city.

According to the complaint, Mr. Syed told police officers who stopped his car Monday night that he had been driving to Houston to find a new place for his family to live because things were “bad” in Albuquerque, and he referred to the recent shootings. He was pulled over about 100 miles from the Texas state line.

cosmos within

I sit, knees and hands folded
end over end

awaiting the cosmos to appear
within

my heart, a flower blooming
in the vacuum of space and time

a riddle, when chasing…

I would be honored if you would go here and read the rest of my poem. Thank you!

Shape the land for drought

Darcy Hitchcock

Ancient practices for shaping the land are being rediscovered to manage drought. Now that we have large tractors, we like to level the ground, but nature prefers divots and lumps.

In Kenya, the villagers agreed to leave their land fallow, land which was virtually barren anyway from drought and overgrazing. JustDiggIt helped them dig crescent shaped holes called bunds in the land to capture rain. Watch what happened.

Greener.Land has itemized practices for different purposes. You can employ these in your backyard as well at a landscape scale to revegetate pastures or wild lands.

Veggie Pot Pie

snapshotsincursive

What’s Cooking in Gail’s Kitchen? Enjoyable Eats: Veggie Pot Pie! Do you like to make pie dough? What if it’s not flaky? Are you okay with that? How do you keep the bottom crust from being soggy? Is it necessary to have a top crust? All very good questions, I assure you. Forget them for now and come with me into the land of phyllo dough where tissue-thin layers of unleavened dough are brushed with melted butter creating a crispy golden crunch. Expert bakers took the time and skill to make our lives easier by rolling and stretching the dough multiple times so we don’t have to. The result is a product as close as our neighborhood grocer. With pre-made phyllo dough as your starting point, anyone can be a gourmet chef. No dough-making required.
