Cod are apex predators in the cold waters off Denmark. Their decline has led to more crabs which eat the sea grass seeds, and sea grass captures and buries carbon dioxide in the sea floor.

So World Wildlife Fund and energy company Ørsted are deploying two types of artificial reefs near their offshore wind turbines. Boulders in wire boxes protect baby cod. And now Denmark is sinking 3-D printed reefs, each weighing half a ton, to support a wide variety of marine species.
