Useful news for all to advance knowledge of the world and how it works

Minbari Mondays: (B5:s4e13) “Rumors, Bargains, and Lies” Shows How A Little Knowledge is Very Dangerous

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

… or Deadly.

Talk about half-baked group-think! I’d have expected better from the Religious Caste, who are supposed to spend so much time learning, thinking, and meditating.

And Lenier, again nearly dying to save others:

“Have we fallen so far that we cannot trust even ourselves?”

I love his words about Delenn, perhaps the best words of wisdom he speaks, spat out with such venom from his hospital bed at his fellow caste members who nearly killed them all, in their stupidity:

“In her world, … we are better than we are… we act with compassion.”

So, with the Minbari as on B5, trust, solidarity, and the whole truth can indeed overcome half-truths and leaps to wrong conclusions, if you live long enough!

Truth Matters.

 Trust Matters.

Empathy Matters.

Mozambique: fighting terrorism

AFRICA DIPLOMATIC

Brussels 12.09.2022 “Last week I was in Mozambique, a country where EU support plays a significant including through one of the largest recipients of EU support and host to one of our EU military training missions” writes the EU top diplomat Josep Borrell.

“My visit aimed to show that the EU does not forget crises in other parts of the world, despite facing the worst threat to European security since the end of World War II with the war of aggression against Ukraine. Mozambique’s fight against terrorism is one of these security crises that we help to tackle using all EU instruments.”

The Week’s Best Cartoons 9/10

Filosofa's Word

As always, TokyoSand over at Political Charge has found the best cartoons from the past week, and as usual, I am a few days late in re-blogging her post!  This week’s biggest story was the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and I know from following Clay Jones’ blog, just how difficult it was to do a political cartoon that showed the respect we all had for her.  Second in line was Steve Bannon’s arrest, which was a big deal here in the U.S., probably not so much across the pond.  Below is a sampling from TokyoSand’s post … be sure to click the link at the bottom to see the entire collection!  Thank you, TS!

Here in the U.S., our news was dominated by Bannon turning himself in and other MAGA acting like dangerous dorks, whereas the U.K. dealt with the loss of their longest reigning monarch.

♫ Witch Doctor ♫

Filosofa's Word

Every now and then, I like to just have a bit of fun with the music posts here on Filosofa’s Word, and I thought it was about time for a fun oldie … and I do mean oldie … probably older than some of you!  The year was 1958 … I was 7 years old, but I remember it well.

Now … how many of you remember Alvin & the Chipmunks?  They were three adorable animated chipmunks named Alvin (the ringleader), Simon, and Theodore.  Their creator was a man named Ross Bagdasarian who went by the stage name David Seville.

Seville got the vocal effect by recording his voice into a tape recorder that was slowed to half speed and then playing it back at normal speed. Today’s song, Witch Doctor, was his first song to use the technique, and at that point there were no “Chipmunks.” (The squeaky…
