La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) P4e1: “Game Over…” and Kids Need Empathy! — Inspiring Critical Thinking and Community via Books, Lessons, and Story

This is the first time anyone has asked to go to jail.        This lady has no empathy:  please let her not raise that child… Plan Hamelîn…   cool! No, Berlin, please stay dead, and stop singing!!  In the reverse order! Poor Pamuk (so Marsella also speaks Turkish??)!!  What kind of kids would do […]

Filosofa's Word

Ay ay ay!!!  How in heck did this begin?  Well, for those who may not have been following the thread, long story short, our dear friend Clive rather challenged me to play an AC/DC song called Whole Lotta Rosie.  Now, he was pretty sure I would not play it and he could hold that over my head for sometime into eternity, but I’m nothing if not a stubborn wench, so … yeah, I played it.  Meanwhile, though, friend Carolyn had begged me not to cave to Clive’s request, for she had a side bet with him that she’d listen to it if I played it!  Since I already owe Carolyn a big one because of Betsy, then I am now twice in debt to Carolyn. Confused yet? 😵‍ She said I could pay her back by playing an ABBA song, so I was looking forward to playing

I had seen a question
on your face,
I kept looking for the answer
but couldn’t find it anywhere,
I looked back at the question
the answer was hidden there…

Meta admits Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp fueled Israel-Palestine conflict in 2021 – Arabian Business

Meta said that in the lead-up to the outbreak of violence on May 10, a “global technical glitch” occurred, preventing users from re-sharing posts, including Israel and Palestine. Miranda Sissons, global human rights director for Meta said that this was “not intentional or targeted but a global error that affected tens of millions of people.”

Shortly after post-resharing was blocked, the Al-Aqsa hashtag, which pertained to a mosque at the centre of the crisis, was also blocked by a content reviewer, Meta said. Sissons noted that the person who made the error is “also human”, and that the hashtag block was fixed once they were made aware of the issue.

There was an under-enforcement of Hebrew content and an over-enforcement for Arabic content throughout the crisis. Palestinian journalists reported that their WhatsApp accounts had been blocked, which again was explained as unintentional and rectified after Meta was notified.

Arabic content also received violations at a significantly higher rate than Hebrew content, which could be attributed to Meta’s policies around legal obligations relating to designated foreign terrorist organisations, the company said.

“We are a US company that has to comply with US law,” Meta said in its own report.

Users were also given false strikes, leading to significantly lower visibility and engagement, after posts were removed for violating content policies. The human rights consequences were severe. Various rights such as freedom of expression, freedom of association and more were curtailed, with journalists and activists especially impacted, the BSR report found.

Head Start COVID-19 vaccine mandate permanently blocked by judge (Me: two Covidiots celebrate CovidDeathCult ruling)

“Today’s ruling is a victory for the rule of law and for health care freedom,” Schmidt said. “We stood up and fought the Biden administration’s illegal mandates on behalf of Kansas kids, teachers and parents, and today we all won.”

In his ruling, Daughty said the issue comes down to separation of powers which “keeps the three branches equal. If one branch attempts to exceed its constitutional powers, it is the Judicial Branch’s duty to stop it.”

“The public interest is served by maintaining the constitutional structure and maintaining the liberty of individuals who do not want to take the COVID-19 vaccine. This interest outweighs Agency Defendants’ interests,” the judge wrote. “The public has a liberty interest in not being required to take a vaccine or be fired from their jobs. The public interest must be taken into account before allowing Agency Defendants to mandate vaccines. Although vaccines arguably serve the public interest, the liberty interests of individuals mandated to take the COVID-19 vaccine outweigh any interest generated by the mandatory administration of vaccines.”

A Virologist’s Take on Polio, Monkeypox, and COVID-19

Unfortunately, we now live in an era with untold levels of skepticism about public health and many doubts about whether the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) can be trusted, which is really sad. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, we already had vaccine-hesitant parents and even activists who were against all vaccines. You now have people talking about whether germs really cause disease.

It reminds me of Carl Sagan and the demon-haunted world. You end up with a self-fulfilling prophecy, with these people coming out with half-truths or very sad distortions of what’s real and valid. Now there are all these Americans who don’t have poliovirus immunity because they chose not to have the vaccine or chose to not have their children get it.

They’re sitting ducks to have these low-probability outcomes on an individual level, but when you get enough people with poliovirus exposure, some of them are going to get poliomyelitis, which is an irreversible paralytic disease. Now we know that this virus has made it: Vaccine-derived polio has shown up in England. Now we’re seeing it in New York City in large numbers and in other parts of the US. It’s a grave concern.

Epidemiologist warns that COVID-19 cases aren’t declining in NH

While many people want to move on from the COVID-19 pandemic, New Hampshire’s epidemiologist said Wednesday that the virus is still very present in the state and is still deadly.

COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths have been declining nationwide in recent weeks, but state epidemiologist Dr. Benjamin Chan said the numbers in New Hampshire are holding steady.

Chan said that since May, about 100 New Hampshire hospital patients have tested positive for COVID-19 each day, and about one person has died each day of COVID-19.

“In any given flu season, we typically see between 40 to 60 people dying from flu every year,” Chan said. “With COVID-19, where we are right now with a steady state, we’re still seeing about one person per day dying from COVID-19.”

Chan said that means that even in the summer months, COVID-19 is killing people at a higher rate than the flu does in the winter. COVID-19 cases are expected to increase in the fall.

He said that’s why getting the new booster that protects against the omicron variant is important. He said it should provide higher levels of protection against multiple strains of the virus, which prevents more serious outcomes and long-term impacts.
