Indigenous leaders from B.C. take international stage for a climate policy pitch | Globalnews.ca

First Nations leaders from British Columbia are taking their environment and climate policy pitch directly to the international stage at a United Nations climate conference in Africa in an attempt to set a tone for domestic climate policy.

Leaders of the First Nations Climate Initiative, made up of four B.C. First Nations, say they will leverage their invitation to COP27 to reiterate the climate action plan it presented to the provincial and federal governments in September.

Alex Grzybowski, a facilitator for the First Nations Climate Initiative, said one of their key goals among seven policy proposals is to reduce poverty in First Nations communities by implementing innovative climate policies.

All sizzle, no steak: how Singapore became the centre of the plant-based meat industry | Environment | The Guardian

Singapore is the first country to have approved the commercial sale of cultivated meat, in the form of chicken nuggets and chicken breast produced by Good Meat, a subsidiary of the American firm Eat Just. At the COP27 summit that begins in Egypt on Sunday, Singapore’s pavilion will be dishing out samples of the cultivated meat.

How Singapore became a food-tech hub

Singapore’s rise in the alternative protein sector is partly driven by geography. The island spans a little more than 700 sq km – and less than 1% of that area is farmland.

Prof William Chen, director of the food science and technology program at the Nanyang Technological University, says Singapore relies on imports for more than 90% of its food, which leaves it vulnerable to shortages and price inflation.

Parashat Lech Lecha 5783, And Why We Must Vote

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

This parashah, as I noted in 5781 ( Sacred Study Saturdays and Hallowe’en as a former slave might have seen it ), has a way of looking at slavery that can inform our need for cultural change today, in the United States.    Here in the US, generations of us have been cut off from our roots, pulled into a system that taught us to hate ourselves, and to compete for the favor of those who control us.  This generational trauma that began with The Middle Passage continued into the Jim Crow era, as segregation based on the One Drop Rule perpetuated a system that created recurring community and family level trauma.  This rootlessness left, as we commented last year, lasting marks on both descendants of American slaves, and on American society as a whole.  Only by continuing to use the right that we have so long struggled for, and…

Violência Doméstica

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

I have played this one twice in the past, but tonight Dan Rather’s nightly email convinced me to … play it again, Sam!  Er, Bill!  Dan said … From the opening notes, the song resonates with the soul. In the simplicity of its chords lies its power. In its lyrics lies a beautiful vision for […]
