Putin Was Waiting on ‘Wink’ From Donald Trump To Seize Ukraine: Author

Written correspondence between former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort and Kremlin aide Konstantin Kilimnik discussed Putin claiming part of Ukraine, saying that a “wink” from the Republican former president was needed to “make this work,” former Mueller prosecutor Andrew Weissmann has said. Speaking with PBS’ Firing Line and host Margaret Hoover, Weissmann said this was “such a clear indication of what Vladimir Putin was trying to do.”

Support apprentices rebuilding a historic house in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica

Petchary's Blog

I spent quite a lot of my childhood getting lost in museums: returning the glassy stares of stuffed animals at the Natural History Museum in London, and peering at strange objects in cases, flint arrowheads and pottery created by mysterious humans thousands of years ago. I found the Science Museum baffling, altogether.

Well, museums have come a long way. Living museums have been around for quite a while now, but are perhaps a relatively new concept in Jamaica. We need to pay attention to our heritage, and one Jamaican initiative focuses on a specific aspect that combines architectural know-how, history, and opportunity for young people to learn a remarkable and unique skill.

The Wattle and Red Earth (WARE) Collectiveis seeking support for its Living Museum Project, driven by an acronym: H.O.P.E. This stands for History, Opportunity, Preservation, and Enterprise. Here is the GoFundMe link. As described, this Living…

White House to launch $5 billion program to improve COVID vaccines | CIDRAP

The Biden administration is launching a $5 billion plan to speed the development of new COVID-19 vaccines and treatments, the Washington Post reported yesterday, citing top federal health officials. Called “Project Next Gen,” the effort follows on the heels of “Operation Warp Speed,” a Trump-era program that streamlined the development of COVID vaccines.

For vaccines, the goals include versions that can induce mucosal immunity, which could cut transmission risk, and a universal coronavirus vaccine that could help protect against SARS-CoV-2 variants or new coronavirus threats.

‘In Some Universe,’ Draft 1, of Poetry as Mental Health Care?

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

Ok, I know that I said I would not write any more poems until I had:

  1. Found someone under 50 (or planning to live another 40 years) committed to Project Do Better, and
  2. published my first novel (that was intended to be #WhoByFire, but may now be a less complicated novel that my sub-plotting skills are already up to),

but this one hit me at 3 am and refused to let me rest, as I smacked myself in the head wondering how I had managed to miss this obvious point, given my fascination with Asimov’s work back in the early 90’s (from my previous lifetime as a woman in math/computer science), and my interest in the mathematical proofs for the multiverse.

This poem, like all initial drafts of poetry, needs some edits, but I do not have the energy to do the necessary editing…
