Surrender on Okinawa
In the Ryukyus Islands, things were far more simple than on the Missouri. The senior officer in the Sakishima Gunto, Lt. General Gon Nomi, Toshiro, whose headquarters was on Miyako Shima, had been given authority to conclude a peace treaty for all Army and Navy forces in the Sakishima Gunto, Daito Islands and the islands in the Okinawa Gunto not already under American control. The official papers were signed on 7 September 1945, with General Stillwell presiding.

General Shunroku Hata and his Army had taken only three weeks in April-May of 1944 to rout 300,000 Chinese soldiers in Honan to secure the Peking-Hankow railroad. He then moved south and then west to meet up with the Japanese forces in French Indochina. The 14th Air Force and the Chinese Air Force could not stop the offensive and by the end of…

Musik (2) … Music (2)
… Here comes the extract of our first music gig last Thursday. We played a first group of softer songs while they were eating. But already then they asked us to reduce the volume because they wanted to talk to each other … fair enough. They were all our age or even older, so we tried…

“Windrushing”: time waits for no man or woman, but the emotions linger
I just had a few thoughts today – it’s Sunday, so it’s quieter and I can “hear myself think.” I have been quietly thinking about the life of my mother-in-law, who passed away recently. It became even more poignant when I wrote a short eulogy for the funeral, which was beautifully read by our cousin. I realised that my husband and I only knew fragments of her life. Parts of it were quite hidden. In a sense, it is our family’s “Windrush story,” and I find it really moving, when I think about her life.
In my own little tribute, I shared memories of her sitting by the gas fire on cold, dark winter evenings at her home in London, trying to keep warm; and then later on, when she joined us in Jamaica, sitting on the verandah on sunny afternoons, day-dreaming and looking at the flowers in her front…

Multiple Choice?

We are not fictional characters in a book or movie. When we have the opportunity to choose what to do, our character reflects the foundation of the type of choices we can or will make.
Often poor choices result in greater, and more dire consequences to live with sooner or later. We are held accountable and are responsible for whatever choice(s) we make. As we stop and examine the condition of our heart, physical and spiritual, we have the choice to speak from our heart but what we say and do is something we have to live with.
♫ Mighty Quinn ♫ (Redux)
I spent most of yesterday (Sunday) reading … just reading, not delving deep into political news, but reading a book simply for pleasure … something I almost never do these days. I enjoyed it, but the result is that I’m behind now and so must delve back into the archives for a song for today. AHA! This one is a fun song … a good way to start off the week, don’t you think? I last played this about 3 years ago, but it’s worth a repeat …
This was written by Bob Dylan, but British rock group Manfred Mann was the first to record it. It was rare for Dylan to let anyone record one of his songs before he did, but Quinn The Eskimo was an exception. Mike D’Abo of Manfred Mann explains …

Asian American organization speaks out a year after Dobbs decision – AsAmNews
…“Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) women continue to feel the reverberations of the overturning of Roe,” said Isra Pananon Weeks, NAPAWF’s Interim Executive Director and Chief of Staff. “The Supreme Court’s unprecedented and callous decision, along with state bans and restrictions that have followed, continues to jeopardize the health, safety, and economic stability of people of color, including AAPI women.”… Source: Asian American organization speaks out a year after Dobbs decision – AsAmNews

…Vaccines have saved hundreds of millions of lives and eradicated or greatly reduced scourges like smallpox and polio. They have protected millions from the worst effects of COVID and hastened a return to our pre-pandemic way of life, even though the dangers of the disease are not fully behind us…. Optimism – Silent Songs of Sonsnow
“Optimism does not mean being blind to the actual reality of a situation. It means maintaining a positive spirit to continue to seek a solution to any given problem. And it means recognizing that any given situation has many different aspects—positive as well as problematic.”
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama
