Barbie

” Essa Barbie é do mundo jurídico, sim!”

Marii Freire

Eu mesma, entrei…

Why Plant a Tree if You Can’t Sit Under Its Shade?

From Behind the Pen

Foresight. It’s easy to put off doing something because you may not be the one to reap the immediate benefits. When you sow something, whether it’s good or destructive, you will reap the effects from those seeds. But remember this, someone planted something or made sacrifices on our behalf, not having met us or knew we even existed. When we think about the future, do we consider our actions of the present? As we look ahead do we plan for the future with clarity and understanding, or refuse to do something contributory and positive that would help the future grow copiously? What is your purpose as you plant something positive and productive for the future?

The “Great Unraveling” and what to do about it

Darcy Hitchcock

Richard Heinberg is like the Ghost in Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, a scary apparition that shows us what our future will be like if we don’t change our behavior. In Welcome to the Great Unraveling, a short report that is free online, he reviews signs of environmental and social degradation, as if we needed a reminder, and then talks about what we should do as a society and also as individuals to prepare.

Fifty years ago, we (i.e., humanity) faced a difficult choice: dramatically shift our trajectory or eventually suffer the results. Now we must both contend with the unavoidable environmental and social costs of delay in addressing the root causes of unraveling, and finally get down to the hard work of transforming the underlying systems that are driving crisis upon crisis, if we are to have any hope of averting the worst.

Heart-Healthy Honey Cake

snapshotsincursive

What’s Cooking in Gail’s Kitchen? Elevated Edibles: Heart-Healthy Honey Cakes! Way down south, in the Florida panhandle, grows an unusual tree that produces the “Cadillac” of all honey varieties known as raw Tupelo. The tree blossoms are short-lived and delicate, creating a nectar that is nothing short of superbly exquisite. The finespun flavor is buttery, highly distinctive, and almost magical. If you happen to put your hands on a jar of Tupelo honey, first unscrew the lid and place a couple droplets on your tongue. You owe yourself a genuine taste of the liquid amber gold before adding it to your culinary portfolio. Then, by all means, elevate everyday favorites.

HEART-HEALTHY HONEY CAKES

Ingredients:

1 cup flour plus 2 tablespoons

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon sea salt

1/3 cup vegetable oil

1/3 cup Tupelo raw honey, reserving 1 1/2 tablespoons for drizzling over the batter

One Heck Of A Parody!

Filosofa's Word

Rather than a depressing political commentary tonight, I have something fun for you … this even made me chuckle aloud.  Most of you have probably heard of Don Caron and the Parody Project, but a brief history for those who may not be familiar with the Parody Project.  From the Parody Project website

The Parody Project was founded in August of 2017 by Film-maker/composer Don Caron, as a means of surviving the current political and social mire with humor and helping others to do the same.  Parody has been an active and important part of contemporary culture for centuries. Whether in literature, theater, film or art, rarely does a day go by when an example of a parody is not widely visible. And it can be seen as ridicule but it can also be viewed as flattery. How you choose to view it says more about you than it does…

Transformation

Kaushal Kishore

When a baby enters the world,
he starts crying
seeing strangers around him…

He gradually acquaints himself
with his surroundings,
and attains
a newfound self-awareness
that elicits smiles and laughter
even at slightest pretext,
he tenderly responds
to every smile with an untainted
and unblemished self…

But along the way,
impurities infiltrate his mind,
contorting it with a false sense
of wisdom, ego, arrogance,
and an insidious hunger
for superiority,
he unwittingly forsakes
the bountiful joys of smiles,
laughter, and true happiness…

God wonders
at the transformation
of His own creation,
having bestowed upon him
flourishing flowers,
meandering rivers,
melodious chirping of birds,
and the beauty
of all the elements of nature,
just to keep him in good humour,
but humour eludes him…
