Fishing boats spotted competing with whales in Antarctica for krill

Nearly all of Antarctica’s iconic wildlife, from penguins to seals and whales, depend on krill, tiny crustaceans that make up the base of the food chain. Krill are also sought after by humans, who scoop them up using massive fishing boats, potentially putting whales in danger, scientists warn.

The fishing boats and whales are “going after the exact same thing; the biggest, largest, densest krill swarms,” Matthew Savoca, an ecologist at Stanford University’s Hopkins Marine Station in the U.S., told Mongabay by phone.

In July 2023, Mongabay reported on fishing trawlers harvesting Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) amid a large pod of whales, defying concerns from scientists that the whales could be injured, killed or outcompeted for food…

¡Quedate!
Hasta la puesta del sol
¡Quedate!
Hasta que no termine la música
¡Quedate!
Hasta el último baile
¡Quedate!
Hasta que salga la luna
¡Quedate!
Hasta que las estrellas brillen en el cielo
¡Quedate!
Hasta que sigamos despiertos
¡Quedate!
Hasta que viva la esperanza
¡Quedate!
Hasta que las olas del mar acaricien la arena
¡Quedate!
Hasta que seamos muy viejos
¡Quedate!
Hasta el último aliento
¡Quedate!
Hoy, mañana, siempre.

Stuck in Time? | From Behind the Pen

stuck in a bottle, trapped, complacency, motivation

I am reminded every single day, as much as I relish memories of years gone by, I can’t get stuck there, for I shall become extinct like a dinosaur and irrelevant in my present moment. As crazy as life gets sometimes, I have to remain alert and pay attention to the here and now so that my conversation and my life can remain just as relevant, contributory, and engaging to others as it is to me. We can’t put time in a bottle because it is impossible to place life on hold. That is the ever-evolving poetry of life.

Let me ask you this question: Do you know of someone whose conversation remains the same every time you see them? Their failure to move on leaves them stuck in the grimness of a time that has ceased to exist and remains buried in the past. Most of the time they try to rope you into this emotional trap. Now mind you, this is slightly different from reminiscing about people or events, which helps us to reflect on how the past can positively influence our present and mold our future.

As I mature and hopefully become wiser over the years, I try to expand my whole being by working to remain relevant in LIFE. I love nostalgia, love to reflect on my past, while remembering the people, places, and events that shaped my life to become the person I am today. Some things I look back on and wish I could change. I cannot because I do not possess a time travel capsule where I can go back as depicted in Sci-Fi storylines and make those changes. But I have to ask myself, why would I travel back or forward in time if possible, and remove or lose those precious lessons (challenging or not) that define and shape these current moments in time.

Without my past experiences, I would not be able to appreciate the strides I made to be where I am, which will shape the path I’m headed on. If we find that we are stuck in a spot or place that is lulling us into a state of stagnation, discouragement, or depression, then we must find a positive way to snap out of this hypnosis and make our way meaningful and purposeful. Complacency can result in death, but a zest for life speaks for itself.

Nature’s Infinite Brush – Kaushal Kishore

Nature’s canvas, ever-changing wide,

Unfolds its beauty, with each passing tide…

With emerald waves and golden gleam,

It weaves new tales in nature’s dream…

.

The trees, like brushstrokes, bold and free,

Dance in the breeze, wild and carelessly…

Their leaves rustle whisper, soft and slow,

A symphony of secrets, only nature knows…

.

The sun, a blazing artist, paints the skies,

With its golden strokes as dawn will rise…

Clouds drift in shades of white and grey,

Brushed by artful breezes in a soft ballet…

.

Mountains rise from their ancient dreams,

Oceans and rivers hum in rolling streams…

Hidden caves hold echoes, deep and low,

While moonlight bathes the world below…

.

In nature, creativity knows no bounds,

Inspiration flows, without a single sound…

The earth, a canvas, painted with grace,

A masterpiece formed in time’s embrace…

.

So let us marvel at, this natural display,

And find our inspiration from nature’s way…

For in its beauty, we find muse and guide,

And in its wonder, our spirits forever reside…

.

Exclusive: Trump to pull nearly 1,660 Afghan refugees from flights, say US official, advocate | Reuters – (Me: Cruel, heartless and undercuts trust in USA)

Nearly 1,660 Afghans cleared by the U.S. government to resettle in the U.S., including family members of active-duty U.S. military personnel, are having their flights canceled under President Donald Trump’s order suspending U.S. refugee programs, a U.S. official and a leading refugee resettlement advocate said on Monday.
The group includes unaccompanied minors awaiting reunification with their families in the U.S. as well as Afghans at risk of Taliban retribution because they fought for the former U.S.-backed Afghan government, said Shawn VanDiver, head of the coalition of U.S. veterans and advocacy groups and the U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
