Disability, Not An Inability – Kaushal Kishore

In a world where challenges are profound,

Disability isn’t inability; strength unbound…

For those facing trials, it’s a rallying cry,

To conquer, thrive, and touch the sky…

*

Amidst obstacles, both physical and societal,

They wield unique talents, shaping life’s carnival…

Contributing beyond the ordinary pace,

Showing strength with resilience and grace…

*

Differently-abled, with abilities divine,

In India, as Divyang Jan*, they brightly shine…

Legislations strive to uphold their right,

But real change begins with empathy’s light…

*

It’s we who can bridge the social divide,

With respect and understanding as our guide…

Breaking down barriers, they lead the way,

For a more inclusive and compassionate day…

*

Celebrate the diversity, let it bloom,

Empower each soul, dispel the gloom…

With understanding, respect, and care,

Together, forge a future beyond compare…

P.S.

Today (January 20) is “International Day of Acceptance”. It is a tribute to the life and ideals of Annie Hopkins, the founder of 3E Love who spread awareness of the social importance of acceptance of diversity. The symbol of acceptance is a heart-shaped wheelchair.

*

Coincidentally, today is also observed as “Take A Walk Outdoors Day”, to encourage people to step outside and relish the benefits of nature. Let’s walk for positive impact, fostering respect and understanding for those with disabilities – a small change that can make a world of difference.

So Bad It’s Good | beetleypete

For almost 60 years, The Louis Tussaud House Of Wax was a feature of the Norfolk seaside resort of Great Yarmouth. Once social media was used to mock the poor quality of the exhibits, the failing museum achieved cult status for a while, with people travelling from all over the country to see what were described as the worst waxwork models in the world.

With the elderly owners unable to afford better exhibits, and interest in the wax museum declining dramatically, it was closed down in 2012.

Here are some examples of what was on offer.

Queen Elizabeth II

Princess Diana.

Pope John Paul II

Michael Jackson

A poem in Vietnamese by Nguyễn Man Nhiên
Translator: Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm
Art: Nguyễn Man Nhiên

a voice shaking on the footpath
a bench as long as the starving night in changing colours
my enlarged solitude
buildings in twinkling layers of light
carved out walls of darkness

return to the deep dark waters
I’m a bird without a voice in the fading light
a man of divinity after the rain
suitcases spilling the sound of church bells

in the square scattered with holy markings
I’m looking for the everlasting
beauty of a god
through the blistering wind
bubbling soil blowing

the moment of death buries us
in loads of pungent tree roots
I’m a spider spinning web at dawn
or a soul trapped in a net

the long winter nights
when the sea has a metallic chill
I would pour into kingdom come
a packet of sweetened bitterness
