#4 – Coisas da SIL

Eu era criança  quando minha mãe lia pra mim.
Achava lindo ela pronunciar cada palavra.
Agora eu cresci e me encontrei lendo.

I was a child when my mother read to me.
I thought it was beautiful that she pronounced every word.
Now I’ve grown up and found myself reading.
As a teenager I read books that touched me.
When I was young, I saw and found myself in the lines of some books and building bridges between them.
I took a few more steps and found myself writing scribbles, until I finished a book.
Now I realize that I can’t see myself without a friendly book, because that’s what it means to me.
I even have a writer’s surname, what’s needed is more commitment.

We all want to live a happy life: – Silent Songs of Sonsnow

“As a human being I’m aware that we are all physically, mentally and emotionally the same and we all want to live a happy life. Scientists say our basic nature is compassionate. It’s clear that love and affection bring people together.”

His Holiness the great 14th Dalai Lama

Songs I Like (9) | beetleypete

As everyone knows by now, I live in Beetley, a village in Norfolk that we moved to in 2012. Even so, I will always be a Londoner.

Adele Adkins is also a Londoner by birth, and at the age of 19 in 2007, long before she became a worldwide celebrity, she wrote and recorded a song about London, a tribute to her hometown. Naturally that resonated with me, and I can relate to it completely.

Reforestation and restoration: Two ways to make the Pan Amazon greener – Stigmatis News

  • Mongabay is publishing a new edition of the book, “A Perfect Storm in the Amazon,” in short installments and in three languages: Spanish, English and Portuguese.
  • Efforts to save agroforestry zones require long-term patience and heavy investment, but ensure that plantations sequester up to 20% of the carbon stored in a natural forest, and even more carbon can be retained through natural habitat restoration.
  • Killeen explains that tropical areas need to retain around 70% of their canopy cover to maintain the atmospheric recycling that sustains historical rainfall levels. In the southern Amazon, this would need to be applied to 15 million hectares with an investment of between $20 and $100 billion.
  • For the author, these issues are all the more urgent as the threat of climate change is accelerating the Pan-Amazonian region to an irreversible tipping point. Are carbon markets providing incentives that ‘reward’ conservation in the Pan-Amazonian region?

The southern metropolis – once called a pensioners’ paradise because of its cool weather and lush gardens – is now more famous as India’s info-tech hub where companies like Infosys, Wipro and hundreds of start-ups have plush offices. But years of rapid, often unplanned, expansion have taken a toll, and the city now appears bursting at its seams…
