Aus einem besonderem Anlass erinnere ich mich an eine Reise um die ganze Welt, die für mich nach der Lektüre eines Buches ein lang gehegter Kindheitstraum war. Als mir vor vielen Jahren ein besonders günstiges Angebot für eine Flugreise um die Welt angeboten wurde, das die Möglichkeit bot, jeweils einen Zwischenaufenthalt in Thailand – Australien – Neuseeland – Fidschi-Inseln – Französisch-Polynesien mit Tahiti, Moorea und Bora-Bora und Los Angeles einzulegen, sagte ich spontan zu. Mein Mann wollte nicht mitfahren, deshalb fragte ich meine Tochter, ob sie diese Reise mit mir machen würde.
Meine Tochter vor den bedeutendsten Wahrzeichen von Sydney, dem Sydney Opera House und der Harbour Bridge
Das erste große und wirklich lohnenswerte Ziel war Sydney an der Ostküste Australiens mit der bekannten Harbour-Bridge und zahlreichen Möglichkeiten, die Stadt selbst und die Umgebung zu entdecken. Besonders das Sydney Opernhaus hatte es mir angetan, sowohl durch die einzigartige Lage, vor allem die architektonische Meisterleistung, begeistert. Das Sydney Opera House gehört zu den weltweit schönsten architektonischen Werken. Jeder Blick darauf ist besonders – egal aus welchem Winkel.

Das Gebäude der Sydney Opera ist 184 Meter lang, 118 Meter breit und bedeckt eine Fläche von etwa 1,8 Hektar. Das unverwechselbare Dach ragt 67 Meter hoch auf und ist mit 1,1 Mio. glasierten, weißen, glänzenden Keramikfliesen verkleidet, die aus Schweden importiert wurden.


An dem Segelschiff vor der Sydney Opera sieht man besonders gut, wie hoch das Opernhaus ist
Wie geblähte Segel sehen die einzelnen Teile des mehrteilige Daches aus. Sie sind bis 67 Meter hoch, der höchste Punkt erhebt sich 134 Meter über den Meeresspiegel. Das Opernhaus liegt auf einer kleinen Landzunge direkt am Hafen.

In 2017, I spent the year maintaining the Christmas spirit in different ways each week. I thought I would re-post this journey because we’re living in some weird-ass times, and I’m beginning to believe that, now more than ever, we will need to depend on ourselves and whatever sense of community we have left.

My goddaughter and I traveled to Nashville the second week in June. There, we hung out on Broad Street with a friend of mine who we’d visited. I’d noticed the homeless population almost immediately and the busyness of the area allowed me to take some candid shots. Well, one man wouldn’t let me take a photo, unless I gave him some money. How much was up to me. I paid $2.00 for a shot of his sign. This, however, isn’t it lol I must’ve deleted it. But this is representative of the types of signs we saw that day…
