McCarthy says Gaetz ousted him to stop ethics complaint over sex scandal | Republicans | The Guardian

The far-right Florida Republican Matt Gaetz forced Kevin McCarthy out as House speaker last year “because he slept with a 17-year-old” and wanted a congressional ethics investigation to end, McCarthy charged on Tuesday.

“I’ll give you the truth why I’m not speaker,” McCarthy said, at an event at Georgetown University in Washington.

“Because one person, a member of Congress, wanted me to stop an ethics complaint because he slept with a 17-year-old, an ethics complaint that started before I ever became speaker. And that’s illegal and I’m not gonna get in the middle of it…

मूल्यवान / Valuable – Kaushal Kishore

जो खर्च हो गया धन, वो खत्म हो गया,

परन्तु जो बचा है, वह मूल्यवान है,

केवल वही खर्च किया जा सकता है,

यह सिद्धांत उम्र पर भी लागू होता है…

💰 💰💰💰💰💰

Money already spent is gone,

but what remains holds value;

only that can be spent,

this principle extends to age too…

The scientists learning to speak whale

In a world-first, scientists had a “conversation” with a whale. Now, researchers are trying to find out what they are actually saying.

A growling “throp” noise emanates from the research vessel’s underwater speaker. A humpback breaks away from its group and approaches. The mammal circles the boat. It surfaces and then dives again, tail slipping noiselessly into the water, and echoes the call back.

Researchers who “conversed” with a humpback whale say their encounter could be the first step towards communication with non-human intelligence. It was in 2021, off the coast of south-east Alaska, that the team of six scientists played a recording of a humpback greeting call using an underwater speaker. They were stunned when one humpback whale they had named Twain responded in a conversational manner.

Good People Doing Good Things — Random Acts of Kindness | Filosofa’s Word

I don’t do it often, but every now and then I enjoy playing these “Random Acts of Kindness” videos that I come across.  I snagged this one a couple of months ago from blogging friend Bee, set it aside, and rather forgot about it until this week.  You won’t find any major things like someone rescuing a family from a burning house or feeding an entire village, but what you will find is people doing little things that make someone’s day a bit brighter — random acts of kindness of the sort we can all do from time to time.  I’m a tough ol’ biddy, but even I found tears welling in my eyes at the same time as a smile crept across my face.  I hope you enjoy this compilation of ‘good people’!

♫ Mr. Bojangles ♫ (Redux) | Filosofa’s Word

Sammy Davis, Jr. made this song a part of his stage shows and live performances for nearly two decades.  Mr. Davis’ version is not the one that hit the charts, but I include it here because … Mr. Davis is an entertainer in every sense of the word, and because … I like it, it brings back memories.

The version that charted, reaching in the U.S. and in Canada is the one by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, released in 1970, and I include that one as well. And the first time I played this back in 2020, my friend Jack noted that Neil Diamond had also covered it, so I began including that one, too! Listen to one, listen to all three … whatever makes you smile today.  The lyrics are slightly different between versions, so I am including the lyrics only for the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band version.
