Biden expands Title IX protections for pregnancy, trans people, and sexual assault victims – ABC News

The Biden administration has finalized new Title IX regulations that codify protections for transgender people, as well as enhance protections for victims of sexual assault or harassment and pregnant people.

“For more than 50 years, Title IX has promised an equal opportunity to learn and thrive in our nation’s schools free from sex discrimination,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona in a statement on the revision. “These final regulations build on the legacy of Title IX by clarifying that all our nation’s students can access schools that are safe, welcoming, and respect their rights.”

Dutch Privacy Watchdog Recommends Government Organizations Stop Using Facebook – Slashdot

The Dutch privacy watchdog AP on Friday said it was recommending that government organizations should stop using Facebook as long as it is unclear what happens with personal data of users of the government’s Facebook pages. “People that visit a government’s page need to be able to trust that their personal and sensitive data is in safe hands,” AP chairman Aleid Wolfsen said in a statement. Junior minister for digitalization Alexandra van Huffelen said Facebook parent company Meta had to make clear before the summer how it could take away the government’s concerns on the safety of data. “Otherwise we will be forced to stop using Facebook, in line with this advice,” she said.

A Vaccine for UTIs? – CRAIN’S COMMENTS

A Spanish pharmaceutical, Immunotek S.L., company has developed an oral spray which can be effective in preventing urinary tract infections in both men and women. The product carries the name, MV140.

Among patients subject to recurrent infections ,

They show that in both men and women subject to recurrent UTIs, 54% of study participants remained UTI-free for nine years after the vaccine, with no notable side effects reported.(1)

“The results were dramatic,” Yang said. “We had women who were coming month after month with infection after infection, despite all treatment, often with last-line antibiotics. And [after using the vaccine] they came back and said what have you done to us? We are infection-free.”(5)

This is the first long term study of this product, and the results were reported this month at the European Association of Urology (EAU) Congress in Paris.

Roughly half of women and 20% of men are subject to these infections. With the rise of antibiotic-resistant strains, the spray represents a welcome alternative treatment.

The study reported this month was conducted by the Royal Berkshire NHS Trust Foundation in London and covered a 9-year span. Unlike other vaccine trials, that’s an ample time in which to determine whether a product works and has any unfortunate surprises. MV140 works with no notable risks.

By the way, the spray is pineapple flavored.

HOW NOW, BROWN COW? | NANMYKEL.COM

A Google find:

I’m 58 years old and I can count how many times I’ve heard that expression on one hand. It’s not, and hasn’t been a common expression since about 1780. A brown cow was a nickname for a barrel of beer, specifically in the early 18th century in Scotland. “How now brown cow” was a way of asking for another pint.

Another wrote that the sentence is used in elocution lessons.

INTROSPECTION

Has the well run dry?

Is nothing left inside?

A vacuum with fading memories.

Be here now!

That’s the catchword.

Climb up, jungle girl!

Peek over the top.

What can you see, hear,

feel? Ah, locked inside with my

my feelings, my song.

Adrift in my bath, the sea!

The third eye blinks

and I am here with you

once more.

Fire…by Mágica Mistura – Mágica Mistura

Everything happens by the fire

Life is a warm breath

That warms our veins

Bringing vitality to the entire body

Our ancestors already knew

And around the fire

They met to exchange experiences…

Fire warms, awakens, stimulates…

He is the one who prepares the food

That comforts us in the dark night

There is fire in each of us

In creation, in the course of work

In the embers of a bonfire

I can see all the flames of life

It’s ‘irresponsible’ to ignore widespread consciousness across animal world, dozens of scientists argue – The Hill

There is good reason to believe fish, amphibians, molluscs and insects are sentient, according to a new declaration signed by three dozen scientists.

The New York Declaration on Animal Consciousness argues that current scientific research indicates such widespread animal consciousness is a “realistic possibility” — and that scientists and policymakers must take that into account when considering risks to those animals.

By Democracy Now

HAVANA TIMES – Israeli police arrested the internationally renowned feminist Palestinian academic Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian at her home in Jerusalem on Thursday on charges of incitement to violence. Shalhoub-Kevorkian, who holds both Israeli and U.S. citizenship, was suspended by Hebrew University last month after saying in an interview Israel was committing genocide in Gaza, though the university later reinstated her.

We speak with anthropologist Sarah Ihmoud, who describes Shalhoub-Kevorkian as a mentor and inspiration to her and many others. “We hold the Hebrew University of Jerusalem responsible for the arrest and detention because of its persistent and public repression of her academic freedom, which led directly to yesterday’s arrest,” says Ihmoud, who teaches at College of the Holy Cross and is co-founder of the Palestinian Feminist Collective. “We see this as yet another example of Israel attacking Palestinians wherever they are, whoever they are. It underscores that no Palestinian is safe under Israel’s racist apartheid rule…”

Felicidade – Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

– Que felicidade a minha!

Eu, chamo de felicidade

Poder abraçar a vida,

– É a esperança!

Dentes nevados

Olhos belos

e alma pura, feito coração de criança.

Que felicidade!
