हिचकियां / Hiccups  – Kaushal Kishore

🕳️🕳️🕳️🕳️🕳️🕳️

Once, when hiccups struck, I’d feel a spark,

Believing someone missed me from afar…

But now I drink water, a task mundane,

Knowing no one’s thinking of me again…

.

P.S.

It is believed that getting hiccups means someone is either talking about you or missing you. Sipping cold water can help stop hiccups.

US adds 272,000 jobs as labor market holds unexpectedly strong | US unemployment and employment data | The Guardian

The US economy added 272,000 jobs in May, a sign the labor market remained strong amid high interest rates, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced on Friday.

The number of May jobs was far higher than the 190,000 economists had expected and topped April’s gains, when a revised 165,000 jobs were added to the economy. The report offered a mixed view of the jobs market. The unemployment rate rose to 4% for the first time since January 2022, up from 3.9% in April.

The White House celebrated the news, which comes amid enduring public skepticism about the economy. “The great American comeback continues, but we still have to make more progress,” Joe Biden said in a statement. “On my watch, 15.6 million more Americans have the dignity and respect that comes with a job.”

On Kindness … | Filosofa’s Word

I was sifting through my email this morning when I came across John Pavlovitz’ newsletter/post … the title caught my eye, so I took a couple of minutes to read the post and I was glad I did.  John echoes my own thoughts, but he expresses them far better than I ever could, so let me share them with you …

A SIMPLE GUIDE TO NOT BEING AN A**HOLE

The Subversive Activism of Human Kindness

By John Pavlovitz

07 June 2024

Friend, this really isn’t difficult.

I see you making everything harder than it has to be.

All your striving and searching and pontificating is overcomplicating things and it’s distracting you.

You’re not going to find what you need where you’ve been looking.

You already have it.

There is no magic elixir to ingest, no secret incantation to exhale, no perfectly worded prayer you need to recite, no carefully concealed cipher you have to decode in order to uncover the way to live well to leave a legacy worth surviving you.

You don’t need to wait for a politician to legislate it, a religious leader to carry it down from a cloud-shrouded mountaintop, a shimmering pop star to sing it loudly from a stadium stage, or a grinning self-help guru to deliver it in slick multimedia conference center presentations.

The secret of this far-too brief appearance on the planet isn’t buried in a dusty religious text or a current airport book store bestseller just waiting to be revealed to only those select few anointed pilgrims whose souls are properly receptive.

And you don’t need a church service, election result, protest march, or hashtag campaign to begin the necessary revolution.

The answer is startlingly simple and it’s as close as the heart within your chest.

If you want to know how to be the type of person the world needs right now, just be kind.

That’s it…

Blind since birth, Stevie Wonder was considered a child prodigy and signed with Motown at age 11.  He has recorded more than 30 U.S. top ten hits and received 25 Grammy Awards, one of the most-awarded male solo artists.  He is also noted for his work as an activist for political causes, including his 1980 campaign to make Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday a holiday in the United States. In 2009, Wonder was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace.

This song, Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday, was released in 1969.  It reached on the pop singles chart and become Wonder’s ninth Top 10 single of the 1960s. The single fared even better on the UK singles chart where it reached in November 1969, and at that time, it was Wonder’s biggest UK hit.
