Get Going or Get Over! | From Behind the Pen

Sometimes, it’s hard to be patient when you are driving behind someone who is on their mobile phone doing God only knows what, especially after the traffic light changes from red to green and they just sit there like they are in a movie theater. My irritation quotient gives me a hot flash when people sit after the light has changed, drenched in the seduction of their mobile devices, as horns behind me honk like ballistic maniacs wanting to be on their way just like I do. Hey, it wasn’t me holding up progress. I sure wouldn’t want to be behind these jokers at a train crossing!

And let’s not talk about people driving with their fingers rapidly moving as their heads bob up and down to their screens (albeit against the law), while driving like Miss Daisy on the interstate, no doubt in the left-hand lane, that compels you to make a citizen’s arrest just for doing something so foolish. What has happened to drivers’ etiquette and common driving courtesies?

If you’re going to drive and use the speaker phone feature or earbuds to talk, while at the same time paying attention to your driving, I don’t have a problem with that at all. But doing any other activity that could cause you to drift into a distracted stupor is dangerous and irresponsible, but that is just my opinion of course. I suppose it’s obvious that I really don’t like or trust these self-driving features on new vehicles these days either. I can deal with cruise control, especially on long-distance trips, but you are still manning the ship so to speak. But a self-driving vehicle texting? Well now, that’s one for the books!

The traffic light occurrence is becoming all too familiar. Now, it is quite clear that no matter how much of a safe and responsible driver you are, you really do have to look out for the other person because they really aren’t looking out for themselves. And this just isn’t only happening among teenagers either! Can you say mass transit boys and girls?

Songs I Like (43) | beetleypete

Lisa Stansfield arrived on the music scene as a solo artist in the UK in 1989, singing on a record by Coldcut. That same year, she released a solo album that had international success, and included this well-known song. I liked her style, her strong voice, and her short hair. I bought the album, and enjoyed listening to it. Not the greatest songs, and very ‘pop’, but I can handle that if I like the singer. Since then, she has released more albums, and diverted into acting with some film roles. Lisa still performs occasionally, and is now 58 years old.

The lyrics are on the video.
