CREAMOS – El plumier de Nenuse

By Neus Bonet i Sala

Creamos a través de la nada

de pensamientos, emociones,

vivencias y ficciones.

Somos una gota en la nada

donde el Ego se impone

la mayoría de las veces.

Pero si eres observador

de la vida desde el exterior,

el camino de tu propio destino

se iluminará indefinidamente.

Happy Juneteenth! | 3CHICSPOLITICO

The Historical Legacy of Juneteenth

On “Freedom’s Eve,” or the eve of January 1, 1863, the first Watch Night services took place. On that night, enslaved and free African Americans gathered in churches and private homes all across the country awaiting news that the Emancipation Proclamation had taken effect. At the stroke of midnight, prayers were answered as all enslaved people in Confederate States were declared legally free. Union soldiers, many of whom were black, marched onto plantations and across cities in the south reading small copies of the Emancipation Proclamation spreading the news of freedom in Confederate States. Only through the Thirteenth Amendment did emancipation end slavery throughout the United States.

But not everyone in Confederate territory would immediately be free. Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was made effective in 1863, it could not be implemented in places still under Confederate control. As a result, in the westernmost Confederate state of Texas, enslaved people would not be free until much later. Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as “Juneteenth,” by the newly freed people in Texas.

The post-emancipation period known as Reconstruction (1865-1877) marked an era of great hope, uncertainty, and struggle for the nation as a whole. Formerly enslaved people immediately sought to reunify families, establish schools, run for political office, push radical legislation and even sue slaveholders for compensation. Given the 200+ years of enslavement, such changes were nothing short of amazing. Not even a generation out of slavery, African Americans were inspired and empowered to transform their lives and their country.

Juneteenth marks our country’s second independence day. Although it has long celebrated in the African American community, this monumental event remains largely unknown to most Americans.

Most Americans approve of DEI, according to Post-Ipsos poll – The Washington Post

A Supreme Court decision last year striking down affirmative action in college admissions unleashed a broad conservative attack on corporate efforts to achieve diversity.

Dozens of companies, including giants like Meta and Pfizer, are fighting lawsuits over their corporate diversity, equity and inclusion, or DEI, programs, many of them brought by conservative activists. Republican-led state legislatures across the country are considering scores of anti-DEI bills, and such efforts are poised to become a wedge issue in this year’s presidential election.

Despite those conservative attacks, most Americans approve of companies taking steps to address the historic inequalities in their ranks, according to a poll from The Washington Post and Ipsos. Roughly 6 in 10 Americans said that diversity, equity and inclusion programs are “a good thing” — and support was even higher for specific programs such as internships for underrepresented groups and anti-bias trainings. The level of support differed among racial groups, and one effort was universally unpopular: financial incentives for managers who achieve diversity goals.

EFE/EPA/HAITHAM IMAD

These Hidden Carbon Sinks May Prove Crucial for Our Survival! — Mother Jones | Barbara Crane Navarro

This story was originally published by the Guardian and is reproduced here as part of the Climate Desk collaboration. Off the Caribbean coast of Colombia, rare manatee calves have been spotted in the canals and rivers of Cispatá Bay’s mangrove forests. The once-critically endangered American crocodile is now seen more frequently. Birds and lizards nest in the branches, fish and…

Let Those Curves OUT – Belladonna’s Flashlight

Dear WOMEN and MEN, I have an important message so grab a sit!

The weather is starting to turn and you may be looking at your body and thinking…..

DAMN DAMN DAMN!

But try to stay positive and work with what ya got.

We let weight take over our lives and control our happiness and enough is enough.

If I had a quarter for every time a client told me, “I will be happy once I drop 10-15 pounds”, I WOULD BE RICH. Then they proceed to show me a dress or a pair of pants that they’ve been holding on to for the past few years in hopes that one day they will be able to squeeze in them.

With hesitation, I hear them out, and as soon as those lips stop flapping, I pounce.

I go right in with the truth. If we treat ourselves like we are worthy, then we will get results faster. Meaning stop holding on to that beautiful outfit in hopes of one day squeeze in it, and in the meantime, you wear that frumpy piece of cloth that you purchased from Walmart. Now I’m not hating on Walmart, but we all know they aren’t known for their one-of-a-kind clothing line. Once you wear something once and wash it, you might as well throw it away unless it’s a T-shirt. I approve of their T-shirt selection! But other than that, STEP AWAY and start dressing those curves in things that make you feel good.

Why wait?

The Key To FEELING GOOD

Stop buying cheap crap to fit those curves. Because guess what… you will continuously pull and yank at the material and look a mess while doing it. But when you cough up a few more coins, you can purchase material that will compliment every fabulous piece of your body. Which will make you feel good about yourself, and then the rolling effect will start.

Loving yourself will motivate you to make healthier food choices and chug a few extra glasses of H2O. And it will push you to get that heart rate up and pumpin.

So today, I encourage you to throw caution to the wind and put on something that makes you FEEL. Embrace those curves and show them some love.

You could have chosen any blog to read, but you chose mine, and I’m honored!
