Philippines’ president-elect Rodrigo Duterte urges public to kill criminals, offers bounties – (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) “Kill your enemy and claim he or she is a drug dealer – OK?”

“If they are there in your neighbourhood, feel free to call us, the police, or do it yourself if you have the gun. You have my support,” he told his cheering followers. “If he fights and fights to the death, you can kill him. “I will give you a medal.” He stressed that drug addicts could not be rehabilitated and warned: “If you are involved in drugs, I will kill you. You son of a whore, I will really kill you.” Mr Duterte reiterated that his anti-crime campaign would be “a bloody war”, as he offered money for slain drug lords. “I will pay, for a drug lord: five million pesos ($145,000) if he is dead. If he is alive, only 4.999 million,” he laughed. Mr Duterte, who takes office on June 30 and is the longtime mayor of the southern city of Davao, also offered smaller amounts for lower-ranked figures involved in the drug trade. He did not say how a private citizen could identify suspects. Mr Duterte has previously been linked with vigilante “death squads” that have killed scores of people in Davao and has vowed to widen his campaign when he becomes president. Others have followed his lead with the elected mayor of the central city of Cebu, Tomas Osmena, admitting he paid more than $US3,000 ($4,000) to police officers for killing drug traffickers. Mr Duterte and other officials have previously brushed aside warnings from human rights groups about the dangers of such a policy.

8-Year-Old Brought Loaded Gun Into Brooklyn School: Gothamist

An 8-year-old boy is accused of bringing a loaded handgun into his elementary school in Brooklyn yesterday. Police say the gun was found in the boy’s backpack, and it’s unclear how he ended up with it—they suspect he may have brought it in because he was having a dispute with another child. Teachers at P.S. 91 on Albany Avenue near Maple Street say they discovered the gun after the boy refused to sit on his backpack when instructed to do so. When teachers became suspicious they looked inside and found a loaded seven-shot, .380-caliber pistol wrapped in a black shopping bag. Police say they’re still trying to ascertain how the boy got a hold of the gun. The school sent home letters alerting parents about the incident. “A student was discovered carrying a weapon in his book bag,” the letter read. “We assure you that every precaution was taken and will continue to be taken to ensure the safety of our students and staff.” ABC 7 reports that officials think the child was having a dispute with a classmate, and suspect he may have obtained the gun from his teenage brother. “Talk to your child,” Gregory Floyd, president of Teamsters Local 237, told the station. “If your child is having a dispute with another child, there should be something in place in the schools that they can just reconcile these issues without resulting in bringing weapons to school.” This is the sixth time since March that teachers have found a child with a gun at a city school.

90,000 people now work for Chinese firms in the United States: Shanghaiist

Most purchases or acquisitions take place in sectors out of the public eye, like energy or construction, but this is beginning to change. AMC Theatres, the second largest movie theater chain in the US, is now owned by China’s richest man Wang Jianlin through the Dalian Wanda Group. Yes, the same Wang Jianlin who earlier this week promised to crush the Shanghai Disneyland by opening up his own theme parks across the country. But whether Americans view increasing Chinese investment as good or bad thing depends very much on their prevailing world view. Is the acquisition of US assets and companies a sinister tactic which threatens national security, or an economic opportunity to be capitalized on?

Is Trump bump triggering dump USA move in America? Not much beyond the jokes – Times of India

A Canadian radio DJ launched a website earlier this year inviting Americans to move to an island off Nova Scotia if Donald Trump wins the race to the White House. A Canadian advertising firm set up a webpage called Trump Clause that includes legal advice for people or businesses choosing to migrate north. Net searches for ”moving to Canada” have soared since the start of the ”Trump bump,” and at one point, the Immigration Canada website was said to have crashed from the traffic. Meanwhile, sharp-eyed online entrepreneurs are hawking everything from ”Canadian Clothing Brands to Familiarize Yourself With Before You Move to Canada” to Canadian spouses to facilitate immigration (the website is appropriately called MapleMatch). The online music streamer Spotify has come up with a ”Moving to Canada” playlist (featuring Canadian singers), while in the U.S, one realtor recently advertised: ”Leaving the country if TRUMP is elected PRESIDENT? Give me a call and LET’S GET YOUR HOME SOLD!!”

Two men kicked off plane in what captain calls ‘racist act’ – The Local

Shortly before the flight was due to take off from Moss airport in Rygge, just outside the Norwegian capital Oslo, passengers were asked to disembark and police carried out a search of the aircraft. Two men were detained by police for suspicious behaviour but were later released. Police said that the two men, one British and one Sri Lankan, had been heard arguing loudly in the toilet, and some passengers thought they heard the word ‘bomb’, according to media reports. Meanwhile, a passenger was removed from an easyJet flight in Pisa in early April after another passenger complained of “suspicious behaviour”. On the same day, Meghary Yemane-Tesfagiorgis, from London, told Britain’s ITV news that he was the victim of racial profiling after being asked to leave an easyJet plane that was readying for take-off from Rome on March 29th because another passenger “felt uncomfortable”.

Duterte vows to kill criminals and reintroduce hanging in Philippines | World news | The Guardian

“What I will do is urge Congress to restore (the) death penalty by hanging,” Duterte, 71, told a press conference in Davao on Sunday. He also said he would give security forces “shoot-to-kill” orders against organised criminals or those who violently resisted arrest. “If you resist, show violent resistance, my order to police (will be) to shoot to kill. Shoot to kill for organised crime. You heard that? Shoot to kill for every organised crime,” he said. He said military sharp shooters would be enlisted in his campaign to kill criminals. Duterte also vowed to introduce a 2am curfew on drinking in public places, and ban children from walking on the streets alone late at night. If children were picked up on the streets, their parents would be arrested and thrown into jail for “abandonment”, he said. Duterte said he wanted capital punishment – which was abolished in 2006 under then-president Gloria Arroyo – to be reintroduced for a wide range of crimes, particularly drugs, but also rape, murder and robbery. He added he preferred death by hanging to a firing squad because he did not want to waste bullets, and because he believed snapping the spine with a noose was more humane. Advertisement The centrepiece of Duterte’s stunningly successful election campaign strategy was a pledge to end crime within three to six months of being elected. Duterte vowed during the campaign to kill tens of thousands criminals, outraging his critics but hypnotising tens of millions of Filipinos fed up with rampant crime and graft. On one occasion he said 100,000 people would die, and so many bodies would be dumped in Manila Bay that the fish would grow fat from feeding on them. He complained on Sunday that people no longer feared the law, and he would change that. “We have a society now where obedience to the law is really a choice, an option only,” he said. “Do not destroy my country because I will kill you. I will kill you. No middle ground. As long as the requirements of the law are there, if you try to evade arrest, refuse arrest… and you put up a good fight or resist violently, I will say: ‘Kill them’.”

War Rather than Policy

In reference to the current “arc of crisis,” the “European Security Strategy” adopted in Brussels in December 2003, stated: “Our task is to promote a ring of well governed countries to the East of the European Union and on the borders of the Mediterranean with whom we can enjoy close and cooperative relations” – a rampart of controllable, stable client states surrounding a prosperous EU.[12] This objective has been completely missed, concluded Wolfgang Ischinger, Chairman of the Munich Security Conference at the beginning of this year. The “vision of a European Union that would be surrounded by a cordon sanitaire of stability, growing prosperity and cooperation south of the Mediterranean and in Eastern Europe,” has “completely failed.”[13] To shield the German-European empire from all sorts of problems and facilitate economic access to interesting neighboring regions, soldiers are now being deployed in the respective countries, ranging from Mali and Syria to Iraq – for the wars of the near future. How the Bundeswehr is preparing for the wars of the near future by growing larger, restructuration, and rearmament, can be read in an intermittent succession of articles over the next few weeks in german-foreign-policy.com.

About The Stereotype Busting High Median Incomes Of Trump Voters | Race Files

We need to get real about who really constitutes the current and projected base for right wing extremism. They aren’t mainly poor folk. Real poor folks are our current and immediate projected base of support and we need to start acting like it. Instead, they are those with relative privilege, living in the anxiety of losing that privilege in a society that punishes the poor. White privilege is eroding. We need to acknowledge this reality.  If we don’t, we will become the victims of nostalgia, trading rose colored pictures of a romanticized past for a sustainable, fair, and secure economic future.

Swedish parents block ‘gateway’ yoga exercises – The Local

A pastor and his wife were among a group of Christian parents who pushed for the school in Rydaholm, southern Sweden, not to start teaching yoga to their children, a practice that was about to be introduced by a new teacher. Linda Olsson contacted the local school authorities and pointed out that her husband David, the town’s pastor, was obliged to keep religion out of ceremonies held to mark the end of the school year. Shouldn’t yoga be subjected to the same scrutiny, she wondered.  Rydaholm is part of Sweden’s Bible belt and other Christian parents shared the Olssons’ concerns about yoga and its links to Hinduism and Buddhism.  “Yoga is used by Buddhists as a form of meditation. We don’t know what it might lead to,” she told local newspaper Värnamo Nyheter.
