The Annihilation of Jewish Latvians

Many members of the Waffen-SS being again honored on Sunday, had participated in the annihilation of Jewish Latvians. Right after Kārlis Ulmanis’ putsch May 15, 1934, Jewish Latvians employed by the government were fired. Jewish businesses were obliged to close. Immediately following their invasion in June 1941, the Germans carried out their first massacres, with Latvians’ practical assistance. Soon Latvian auxiliary police units were created, for imprisoning and guarding Jews, as well as to carry out assassinations.[3] Only 15,000 of the 90,000 Jewish Latvians were able to flee with Soviet troops in the summer of 1941 ahead of the Nazis’ invasion. Less than a thousand of the remaining 75,000 Jews survived German barbarism. Many of the Latvians, who had participated in the murders, joined the Latvian Waffen-SS, which in 1944 were engaged in the effort to defend the German killing fields from the Red Army. Around 140,000 Latvians had collaborated with the German occupiers.

Middle east – Video: Egypt expels female activists on way to Gaza Strip – France 24

Egypt on Friday deported dozens of female pro-Palestinian activists who had hoped to travel across the border to the Gaza Strip to celebrate International Women’s Day there.

The women, numbering around 100 in total and mostly from the Europe and the US, had flown to Cairo with the intention of entering the Gaza Strip through Egypt’s Rafah border crossing.

However, they were unable to make it any further than Cairo International Airport after Egypt denied them entry to the county. After staging a sit-in at the airport, the activists were sent back to their home countries by the Egyptian authoritities

Several lobby groups have launched a campaign against homosexuality. They want the government to declare it a crime. The groups yesterday kicked off the ‘Zuia Sodom Kabisa’ (Prevent Sodom Completely) petition to collect a million signatures against homosexuality in Kenya.

The groups include the Save Our Men Initiative, Maendeleo ya Wanaume, the Kikuyu Council of Elders, religious groups and professionals. “The support the homosexual community is getting from Western governments like the Netherlands, USA and Germany has given homosexuals boldness that borders on intimidation for the few voices of reason that are standing against their onslaught,” said Peter Munga, the chairman of Mandate Initiative.

Munga said the “vocal and incessant support” homosexuals are getting from US President Barack Obama is worrying. Save Our Men’s Jasiel Njau said Uganda has been threatened with Western aid cuts for outlawing homosexuality “based on scientific-cultural facts and sound moral considerations”.

A new front has opened in the battle for control of Anbar province. The conflict, which began in late December 2013 when the Iraqi army deployed to the Anbar desert to combat the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), has now expanded to such popular social media platforms as Facebook and Twitter. Activists backing the Iraqi army have established pages supporting the security forces, while tribal fighters battling the army as well as ISIS have created similar pages. They all provide updates of events on the ground, and some do not shy from indulging in incitement against their adversary.

Leaked records expose huge offshore tax havens used by families of CCP elite: Shanghaiist

A newly-published report by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists reveals some 22,000 clients from mainland China and Hong Kong who are stashing their money away in offshore acounts in the British Virgin Islands and other locales. The clients include family members of many preeminent CCP elites, including Xi Jinping and Wen Jiabao.

Many of the holdings are managed by top international banks, including UBS, Credit Suisse, and Deutsche Bank, which have topnotch reputations for secrecy. These banks acted as middlemen for Chinese clients to establish trusts and companies in the British Virgin Islands, Samoa, and other islands whose primary reason for existence is the hiding of wealthy people\’s funds.

There are some big, big names involved in this case, as the ICIJ reports:

The confidential files include details of a real estate company co-owned by current President Xi Jinping’s brother-in-law and British Virgin Islands companies set up by former Premier Wen Jiabao’s son and also by his son-in-law. […]

Chinese officials aren’t required to disclose their assets publicly and until now citizens have remained largely in the dark about the parallel economy that can allow the powerful and well-connected to avoid taxes and keep their dealings secret. By some estimates, between $1 trillion and $4 trillion in untraced assets have left the country since 2000. […]

DW: News reports say that the NSA is using a special technique in order to spy on about 100,000 computers outside the US – even if they’re offline. How is that possible?

Martin Holland: According to reports, they\’re using special implants placed on the computer components. With the help of the implants, they can conduct surveillance on those machines. The NSA sends signals to the implants, and can then find out what was done on the computer by what\’s reflected back from the device.

US pair accused of illegally importing rare snake from Brazil, breeding it to make money

A brother and sister from the U.S. have been indicted on charges of illegally importing a rare boa constrictor from Brazil.

The U.S. Attorney\’s Office in Utah says 39-year-old Jeremy Stone and 34-year-old Keri Stone brought the snake into the country through a shipment that went through Miami.

Authorities say they paid thousands of dollars to administrators at a Brazilian zoo to get the white leucistic boa. They say the two falsely reported the snake had been caught in the wild in Guyana.

Prosecutors say Jeremy Stone bred the boa constrictor with other snakes at his reptile business and sold the offspring for tens of thousands of dollars.

Stone sold the snakes he bred to buyers in the United States, Canada and Italy, the indictment says.
