Sevastopol: the Ukrainian port on Russia’s side | Europe | DW.DE | 27.02.2014

Reminds me of coal mine owners who forced workers to attend “rallies” to oppose mine safety and such…

The port is port for Russian Navy – their Guantanamo!

Buses continue to arrive late into the evening, shuttling more demonstrators toting Russian flags.

One thing that’s worrying is the different narratives being expressed. No one can agree on what’s actually happening in the country. Earlier this month, security forces opened fire on demonstrators on Kyiv’s Independence Square, known as the “Maidan,” killing more than 70 people in clashes that also killed and injured policemen.

Settlers bulldoze Palestinian lands near Nablus to expand outpost | Maan News Agency

Ghassan Daghlas, a PA official who monitors settlement activities in the northern West Bank, told Ma’an that settlers from the Shvut Rachel outpost had decided to expand their illegal settlement at the expense of nearby private Palestinian landowners.

The fields that were leveled belong to Ahmad Ibrahim Hajj Muhammad, he added.

Daghlas said that the Israeli government had granted the settlers construction licenses.

Dear CVS: A Real ‘Health-Care Company’ Guarantees In-Store Access to Birth Control

Imagine this: You had sex and the condom broke. You definitely don’t want to get pregnant. You cannot afford to have a baby. The next morning you walk into your neighborhood pharmacy to get emergency contraception. The pharmacist looks at you and says no, he won’t give it to you, that’s not something he believes in, his buddy here behind the counter doesn’t either, and you’d better go somewhere else.

Astonishingly, this scenario does not violate a corporate-level policy governing more than 7,600 CVS/pharmacy stores in the United States. Despite recent changes from the Food and Drug Administration, certain types of emergency contraception, including but not limited to brands sold as ella and Next Choice, still require a prescription or are behind the pharmacy counter and require proof of age. When the personal beliefs of all available pharmacists on duty conflict with someone’s need for emergency contraception, CVS specifies that the person seeking emergency contraception should go to another store.

Khalil Gibran on Lebanon: Pity the Nation | Hummus For Thought

“Pity the nation that is full of beliefs and empty of religion.

Pity the nation that wears a cloth it does not weave,

eats a bread it does not harvest,

and drinks a wine that flows not from its own wine-press.

Pity the nation that acclaims the bully as hero,

and that deems the glittering conqueror bountiful.

Pity a nation that despises a passion in its dream,

yet submits in its awakening.

Pity the nation that raises not its voice

save when it walks in a funeral,

boasts not except among its ruins,

and will rebel not save when its neck is laid

between the sword and the block.

Pity the nation whose statesman is a fox,

whose philosopher is a juggler,

and whose art is the art of patching and mimicking.

Pity the nation that welcomes its new ruler with trumpeting,

and farewells him with hooting,

only to welcome another with trumpeting again.

Pity the nation whose sages are dumb with years

and whose strong men are yet in the cradle.

Pity the nation divided into fragments,

each fragment deeming itself a nation.”

No shame, do the time guy! French priest on trial for rape never heard word ‘no’ | News , International | THE DAILY STAR

Since the priest was charged with rape, the woman has been left isolated in a village community in which the priest was a popular figure, judicial sources said. “There are some who are now calling her the priest’s tart,” one said.

Her lawyer added: “Her situation has only made her isolation worse. Religion was her only outlet and she has been cut off from that. She has even had to change her telephone number.”

The priest has acknowledged having sexual relations with women during a spell spent working in New Caledonia, a French overseas territory in the South Pacific.

According to his own interpretation of Catholic doctrine, as a priest he was obliged to be celibate, ie. unmarried, but never took a vow of chastity.

Separate and maybe equal sectarianism? Israeli law distinguishing Christian, Muslim Arabs draws fire | Maan News Agency

Israel’s parliament on Monday passed into law a bill expanding the equal opportunities commission from five to 10 members, and giving separate seats for the first time to representatives of Christian and Muslim Arab workers’ groups.

“We and the Christians have a lot in common. They’re our natural allies, a counterweight to the Muslims who want to destroy the country from within,” Haaretz daily quoted the bill’s sponsor, Yariv Levin, of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party, as saying.

It also sets aside seats for Druze, ultra-Orthodox Jews and families of Jewish immigrants from Ethiopia, all groups which have higher than average unemployment.

Are long-banned PCBs hiding in your clothing, food packaging & paint? | myEARTH360 (the blog)myEARTH360 (the blog)

F$$$ers poisoning us via the back door!

“… a little known fact is that the Toxic Substances Control Act has a big loophole: PCBs are allowed in consumer products as long as their production is unintentional. Oftentimes, PCBs are by-products of chemical processes.

One process that generates a lot of PCBs is the production of pigments, which are used in paints and printing inks. Researchers at the University of Iowa tested batches of paint pigments and found a wide range of PCBs in them. My students here at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, have been testing consumer products that have printing inks in them, including newspapers, magazines, napkins, plastic bags, and even clothing, and finding PCBs in them. That’s right, there are PCBs in your children’s clothing, food packaging, and napkins!“
