Deaths of Migrant Children Reflect Inhuman Detention Conditions | La Prensa San Diego

The recent deaths of Guatemalan children in migrant detention centers in the United States and Mexico are “the most forceful expression that these places generate cruel and inhuman conditions, where life itself seems to be the least important”, said Rafael Alonso Hernández, coordinator of the migration studies doctoral program at Tijuana’s Colegio de la Frontera Norte institute.

Ben Carson is Either a Liar or an Idiot or Both

HUD’s move on Wednesday was widely criticized by advocates. “It completely guts the Equal Access Rule,” said Mara Keisling, Executive Director of the National Center for Transgender Equality, to the Washington Post. “The Trump administration is, once again, targeting the most vulnerable trans people by empowering shelters to turn people away and deny them equal access to services.” But it’s perfectly in line with the Trump administration’s attacks on the rights of trans people.

Release unjustly detained pastor and grandmother | Faithful America

ICE agents forced their way into Betty Rendón’s home with guns drawn, “violently” shook her husband, and were reportedly “jubilant” after the arrest.   Pastor Rendón, who fled to the U.S. from Colombia after armed guerrillas attacked the school where she taught, now serves a church in Wisconsin as a student pastor while studying for her doctorate. Her bishop says the Rendóns have “been a blessing to every community that they’ve ever been a part of.”   Local religious leaders just held an interfaith prayer vigil outside the detention center where Pastor Rendón is being held, and national Lutheran leaders have called on federal officials to release her from detention.

On The Road To War! – In Saner Thought

British Maj. Gen. Chris Ghika, however, has raised serious doubts about that. Maj. Gen. Ghika said that there has been “no increased threat from Iranian-backed forces,” despite the claims from US officials, mostly Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and John Bolton. Perhaps more damningly, Ghika says he does not believe there is any daylight between Britain’s assessment of “no increased threat” and the assessment from US intelligence. In other words, the US officials are lying about the intelligence, presumably to justify the growing US buildup and to keep hyping the possibility of a war with Iran. US Central Command, however, angrily shot back contradicting Ghika, insisting his statement runs counter to established US position on the matter.

The Guardian view on abortion: protecting a human right | Editorial | Opinion | The Guardian

Each day almost 70,000 unsafe abortions are carried out around the world, and they are vastly more likely to happen in countries with strict laws. What such legislation does do is force some women to continue pregnancies against their wishes, while risking the lives and wellbeing of others. Women in the US have seen their ability to terminate pregnancies dismantled piece by piece. Now states are racing to outlaw or dramatically curb abortions with extreme and unconstitutional bills. The aim is to directly challenge Roe v Wade, the US supreme court ruling that established that abortion is legal before the foetus is viable outside the womb, at around 24 weeks. Last Tuesday, the governor of Georgia signed a bill essentially banning abortions after six weeks from 2020. Some described it as a sign that men who wish to control women’s bodies have no idea of how they actually work. More likely, those who pushed hardest for the change understand all too well that many women will not know they are pregnant until it is too late.

It’s Lies Once Again! – In Saner Thought

This is just the sort of LIES that gets our asses in trouble over and over again. We trusted the Israeli intel in Lebanon in the 1980s and we kill about 100 innocent people trying to kill one person and again in the 80s when we trusted their intel and we missed Qaddafi and finally the intel from Israel has been wrong about Iranian nukes for 25 years….and now we are trusting their inept intel once again….. What do we pay the CIA to do? Maybe confirm the intel before we do something stupid like Iraq. Just a thought.

The Unpleasant Meanings of Sri Lanka’s Hijab Ban – The Ladies Finger

What does the hijab say about national security? It would make more sense to ban backpacks, the kind the bombers used. It was the backpack that raised the suspicion of Ramesh Raju who stopped the bomber from entering the Zion church in Batticaloa, saved many lives and lost his own.
