The US President tells a number of prominent Democratic congresswomen to go back to the “totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came”, despite them all being American citizens and all but one being born in the US.
U.S. officials are unlawfully moving asylum-seeking children from costly shelters into relatively cheaper Immigration and Customs Enforcement jails. The Deportation Research Clinic has reviewed hundreds of age assessment cases since January 1, 2016. Among the 205 formal Memorandums of Age Determination coded to date we found ORR officials blatantly misstating the results of medical assessments and official policies. Along with keeping adults out of facilities meant for minors, officials from the Office of Refugee and Resettlement are placing unaccompanied children into ICE jails. We found ORR coordinating with ICE, repeatedly violating the policies for placement, and also hurting children’s asylum claims.
He wrote: “We are behind all our fisherman [sic] and the restoration of sovereignty over our waters. 200 miles of exclusion zone with any foreign fishing vessel given the same treatment as the Belgrano! Well done June. We are 110% behind you and will ensure you give ‘em hell on committee.”
I know that it can be depressing to read. The behaviour of the Administration is meant to discourage us. Don’t let it. Let it enrage you. Keep you focused on why these people should be in jail, and why all of the GOP needs to go in November 2020. I will remind you that not one Republican has stepped up to call out this Administration. Not one. And, for those running in 2020, this must be held around their necks as an albatross.
A small African-American community has existed less than 10 miles from the president’s former plantation for generations. Only recently has the full extent of their relationship been revealed.
NY1’s Roma Torre has been working in television for 30 years, a career that’s earned her two Emmys, one just this year, but Torre says she’s currently being forced out of her job due to age and appearance.
Here’s what I believe is the best way forward: Regardless of where we come from and what our color is or how we worship, every family wants the best for themselves and their children. But today, certain politicians and their greedy lobbyists are putting all our families at risk. They rig the rules to enrich themselves and avoid paying their fair share of taxes, while they defund our schools and threaten seniors with cuts to Medicare and Social Security. Then they turn around and point the finger for our hard times at people of color and new immigrants . . . even tearing families apart and losing children. When we reject their scapegoating and come together across racial differences we can make this a nation we’re proud to leave all of our children . . . Whether we are Democrat or Republican, white, black or brown from down the street or across the globe. We need to recognize our linked fate across race and class in order to sweep away the politicians’ dog-whistling on behalf of rule and for the rich.
The most widely discussed moment from last week’s Democratic primary debates was Kamala Harris’s pointed critique of Joe Biden’s defense of southern segregationists and his stance toward busing. That encounter—in which Harris shared her own story of being a young girl bused from her working-class neighborhood on the majority-black side of town to a predominantly white school in Berkeley Hills, and in which Biden appeared visibly flustered and defensive—has set off a round of media coverage and conversation about desegregation efforts more broadly and busing in particular.
“Charter schools were/are the answer to busing and integration. The first charter school were suburban and white along with Catholic schools that als started getting public money for text books. Now charter schools are also just a way to profit off of racism in general. As money gets sucked out of public schools, even Black-Americans are conned into sending their children to “academies” that claim to offer better education than the public school and are just “coincidently” is pretty much segregated.”
Megan Rapinoe does not want to go to the White House. Megan Rapinoe does not want to go to the White House if the U.S. Women’s National Team wins the World Cup, because Donald Trump is the president. She does not want to visit Donald Trump because of his record and statements on racial issues, gender issues, LGBTQ issues, immigration, sexual harassment, sexual assault—take your pick, or pick all of them: If there’s a marginalized group, the president has said or done something to degrade it, marginalize it further, or outright harm it. Megan Rapinoe disagrees with all of this, because she appears to be a decent human being, and doesn’t really want to hang out with Trump because of that. This seems pretty clear-cut.
