It’s Teachers’ Day. And in Mexico the teachers have been some of the most militant and vocal forces against privatization, government corruption, police repression and the failed drug war.

Indian legislation on the desk of a do-right Congressman

Now, he don’t know much about the issue

so he picks up the phone and he asks advice from the

Senator out in Indian country

A darling of the energy companies who are

ripping off what’s left of the reservations. Huh.

1.

I learned a safety rule

I don’t know who to thank

Don’t stand between the reservation and the

corporate bank

They send in federal tanks

It isn’t nice but it’s reality

chorus:

Bury my heart at Wounded Knee

Deep in the Earth

Cover me with pretty lies

bury my heart at Wounded Knee. Huh.

2.

They got these energy companies that want the land

and they’ve got churches by the dozen who want to

guide our hands

and sign Mother Earth over to pollution, war and

greed

Get rich… get rich quick.

chorus…

3. We got the federal marshals

We got the covert spies

We got the liars by the fire

We got the FBIs

They lie in court and get nailed

and still Peltier goes off to jail

chorus…

4.

My girlfriend Annie Mae talked about uranium

Her head was filled with bullets and her body dumped

The FBI cut off her hands and told us she’d died of

exposure

Loo loo loo loo loo

chorus…

We had the Goldrush Wars

Aw, didn’t we learn to crawl and still our history gets

written in a liar’s scrawl

They tell ‘ya “Honey, you can still be an Indian

d-d-down at the ‘Y’

on Saturday nights”

Bury my heart at Wounded Knee

Deep in the Earth

Cover me with pretty lies

Bury my heart at Wounded Knee. Huh!

League of the South Chieftain Talks ‘Race War’ | Hatewatch

“We Southern nationalists do not want a race war (or any sort of war). But if one is forced on us, we’ll participate,” wrote Hill on the LOS website. “Southern whites are geared up and armed to the teeth.”

Such statements may come as a shock, given the fact that the LOS has spent much of the last two years attempting to promote its message to “regular” southerners through the use of mainstream, conservative messaging on issues such as “traditional marriage” and the “demographic displacement of southerners.” Of course, that was never a very honest presentation. After all, Hill is the same man who at a Georgia LOS meeting in 2011 urged his constituents to begin stocking up on AK-47s, hollow-point bullets, and, most remarkably, tools to derail trains.

Unarmed Teen Killed By Police Cried: ‘Mommy, Mommy, Please Come!’: LAist

Police said they found gang-related graffiti inside of the home after the shooting. They also arrested four others in the incident: Edgar and German Rodarte, ages 20 and 21, respectively, and Yesenia Pineda, 22, and Ceclia Cox, 22. However, the family says Hector Morejon was not in a gang. Their statement said that linking him to a gang “reflects the police department’s immediate tactic to attempt to make the victim of a police killing (here Hector) appear like a bad person. Hector was a sweet son and favored little brother.”

Anyone with information regarding this shooting is urged to contact the Long Beach Police Homicide Detail at 562-570-7244.

Sinai jihadist groups threaten Copts for their support to President al-Sisi – Fides News Agency

The Coptic Christians must leave their homes and the Sinai Peninsula if they do not want to die for the next targeted attacks that jihadist groups operating in the Peninsula are preparing to carry out against them. The threat, direct and selective, was spread through social networks by militants, such as the Ansar Beit al-Maqdis group. In their threatening messages – say local sources consulted by Agenzia Fides – jihadists explicitly declare that the Copts are a target of their violence because of their support towards President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and therefore for their non-marginal contribution to the consensus enjoyed by the current strong man of Egypt.

Katie Hopkins calling migrants vermin recalls the darkest events of history | Zoe Williams | Comment is free | The Guardian

It is no joke when people start talking like this. We are not “giving her what she wants” when we make manifest our disgust. It is not a free speech issue. I’m not saying gag her: I’m saying fight her. Articulate the fellowship, the human empathy, that makes these deaths important. Stop talking about how many children were among the dead, as though only children matter. Start talking about everybody’s life as cherishable, irrespective of anything they might produce.

Middle East – Saudis fund French weapons for use in Lebanon – France 24

It is still all about profit and subsidizing the production of arms that will fuel corruption in Lebanon, not liberty…

France, Lebanon’s former colonial ruler, is actually a late-comer to the conflict.

To date, almost all Lebanon’s international support has come from the United States and Britain.

France only won the contract to supply the Lebanese army, analyst Aram Nerguizian told AFP, because Saudi Arabia had been frustrated by US and British refusals to attack the Syrian regime in 2013.

“It was good fortune for the French, but they have a lot to prove. The momentum of the US and UK defence programmes in Lebanon is far more consolidated,” said Nerguizian, who is a senior fellow at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies in Washington.

Gunfights in Reynosa Mexico border town after drug gang leader ′El Gafe′ arrested | News | DW.DE | 18.04.2015

Reynosa has been the site of turf wars between two rival drug gangs – the Gulf Cartel and the Zetas – over the last year. They have been fighting for control of the border smuggling routes into the United States, and crime rackets.

The Gulf Cartel had been dominant in Reynosa, a city of 610,000 people, just across the border from the US town of McAllen, Texas. But the arrest of several leaders in 2013 had weakened its control in the city, and in the state of Tamaulipas. It also led to infighting within and between cartels.

The US consulate in the city of Matamoros issued a message saying it “has learned of several firefights and roadblocks throughout the city” of Reynosa. It urged Americans to “use extreme caution and to remain in-doors.”

Afghan Women’s Writing Project | Farkhunda’s Force

Farkhunda, what shall I say

How to tell this endless story

From her eyes of tears

To the boldness in her face

Her injured body

I cry out with her pain

They broke her legs and hands

Yet still she stood

They pulled her silken hair

They razed her beautiful skin

Her face was bloody

They kicked her thin body

With a closed mouth

She begged with her eyes

For the sake of God

I am innocent, innocent

They uncovered her

But she still stood strong

I haven’t done anything wrong

They burned her body, could not mute her voice

They were men

Famous for bravery

Surrounding one woman

They were men

Called themselves manly Muslims

Tortured a helpless woman

Setting fire to a defenseless woman

Calling themselves patrons of Islam

They were men

Mark them forever as traitors

Those savage rioters

In the bodies of men

Farkhunda suffered and died

But her force lives on
