The two sides are now in agreement on “the exact content of a joint action plan” to stem the flow of refugees arriving to Europe, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said after the refugee summit in Brussels early Friday.The EU and Turkey also agreed to “speed up” the talks on easing visa restrictions for Turkish citizens, according to Juncker.The plan mostly deals with providing more aid to help Turkey manage around 2 million refugees on its soil. Turkey is also the main starting point for the hundreds of thousands of refugees crossing the Mediterranean and entering Europe, with many EU officials pressuring the country to crack down on human smugglers.

Middle East – Israel seals off East Jerusalem after ‘Day of Rage’ attacks – France 24

{Isreal creates “ghetto” in Jerusalem and engages in collective punishment}

At a meeting of the security cabinet that finished in the early hours, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also allowed revocation of residency rights of Palestinians deemed to have committed “terrorism” and a step-up in the demolition of homes of people who carry out attacks.Seven Israelis and 30 Palestinians, including children and attackers, have died in two weeks of violence including stabbings, shootings, car rammings and security crackdowns that have stirred memories of past Palestinian uprisings.The causes of the turmoil are multiple, but Palestinians are angry about what they see as increased Jewish encroachment on the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem’s Old City, an area that is holy to both Muslims and Jews.

Bystander Who Fired at a Fleeing Shoplifter’s Vehicle Is Charged in Michigan – The New York Times

In each case, the person with the gun was a customer who was licensed to carry a concealed weapon, saw store employees chasing shoplifters and fired as they drove off. In the Michigan case, the Oakland County prosecutor, Jessica R. Cooper, charged Tatiana Duva-Rodriguez with one count of reckless use, handling or discharge of a firearm.“If this is proven, I find it very disturbing that someone would take out their gun in a busy parking lot and shoot at the tires of a passing car,” Ms. Cooper said. “Once fired, the bullet could have easily ricocheted or fragmented and injured or killed someone else.”

Black councilman tased by police in city where Sandra Bland was arrested – LA Times

{Police – most – are better than this. They and their chiefs better take the ones who have a “thing” about authority that exceed human rights and common sense – in hand and boot them out or things will just get much worse. How about a people code, instead of the blue code?}

One witness said Miller was tased while he was on his knees with his hands at his side. The encounter began when police stopped to question several of Miller’s fraternity brothers gathered outside his house Thursday. When Miller attempted to intervene, police ordered him to step back, then tased and arrested him for reportedly interfering with police duties and resisting arrest.

A video showing the murder of Fadi Alloun, a 19-year-old Palestinian man, who was shot dead by Israeli police in Musrara neighborhood, beside Jerusalem’s Old City, is sending shock waves around the world as clashes between Israeli settlers and Palestinians escalated over the past three weeks. According to witnesses, Alloun was being followed by around 70 Israeli Jewish settlers surrounded by the Israeli police on October 4. Moments later, we hear the mob yelling at the police ‘it’s a terrorist, shoot him!’ and ‘don’t wait! Shoot him!’ followed by his execution. Alloun is not seen as posing any threat in the video, being surrounded by numerous armed men, and the settlers are seen rejoicing in his death, repeating ‘yes! yes!’ and ‘son of a bitch’.

Roseburg, Reeling From Massacre, Finds Security in Gun Ownership – The New York Times

{Self-delusion is most addicting, as is doing “something” whether is will do any good or not or whether there is any necessity to “do” anything to be safer.}

A week has passed since J.J. Vicari huddled underneath a desk while gunshots exploded in the classroom next door. Now, he is thinking about guns. Not about tightening gun laws, as President Obama urged after nine people were killed at the community college here. But about buying one for himself.“It’s opened my eyes,” said Mr. Vicari, 19. “I want to have a gun in the house to protect myself, to protect the people I’m with. I’m sure I’ll have a normal life and never have to go through anything like this, but I want to be sure.”

Our Commander-in-Grief Has Given This Damn Speech 11 Times | Dame Magazine

How could he not be sick of it? This country’s obsession with guns is cancerous and even the simplest of cures is considered worse than the disease. Last year, our country lost its collective mind when a man in Texas died from the Ebola virus. There were calls to ban all people in Ebola-stricken nations from coming into the United States in fear that they’d spread the disease. When three people died from a listeria outbreak tied to Blue Bell Ice Cream, the company destroyed 8 million gallons of product and shut down its production across the world. Sunland Peanut Butter Company was shut down completely by the FDA after a salmonella outbreak that didn’t cause any fatalities. We accept and approve of corrective action when it comes to products that are deemed dangerous. But if that product fires a bullet, all bets are off, regardless of the body count.
