Migrant caravans are making their way to the US border — but the journey is far from easy – ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

We spent three days with that boy. His name is Daniel and he’s one of perhaps 10,000 people from Central America who’ve arrived at the US border since November. He can’t go home because the gangsters would likely murder him. And he can’t cross the border because Donald Trump calls asylum seekers invaders. But this child is still glad he’s escaped what used to be his home.

Bremen police release video of attack on AfD lawmaker Frank Magnitz | News | DW | 11.01.2019

Magnitz said he was attacked from behind by three men with a piece of wood around 5:30 p.m. on Monday. He said the attackers continued to kick him once he had fallen down, before he blacked out. The police video, however, shows one man hitting Magnitz from behind with his elbows after which two other people run past Magnitz. Prosecutors cast doubt on the version of events put forth by AfD politicians when they said video footage of the attack appeared to show that while the politician was attacked, most of his injuries were sustained when he hit the ground.

William Barr: Roe v. Wade Was ‘Wrongly Decided and Should Be Overruled’

The Justice Department finally rid itself of Jeff Sessions, but Donald Trump’s nominee to replace him, William Barr, is of course also a bad man, just of a different type. An example: Barr, who previously served as attorney general under the first Bush administration, believes that abortion should not be a constitutionally protected right.

Doubt cast over details of attack on AfD lawmaker Magnitz | News | DW | 09.01.2019 “Creating fake news to get sympathy for the devil?”

CCTV may contradict Magnitz On Wednesday, however, prosecutors in Bremen questioned whether Magnitz was assaulted in exactly the manner he described. A spokesman told German news agency DPA that CCTV footage of the attack showed Magnitz being elbowed once, then falling over as his attackers ran away. Bremen police have said that the attack was “lightning quick,” and that they were investigating charges of grievous bodily harm, saying they had no photographic evidence that Magnitz was kicked while already down. Magnitz himself on Wednesday conceded that the attack may not have been politically motivated and may in fact have been an attempted robbery.

Scott Morrison criticises ‘ugly racial protests’ but fails to condemn Fraser Anning | Australia news | The Guardian

Morrison has remained quiet about the independent Queensland senator Fraser Anning, who attended the rightwing event alongside its organisers. The acting Labor leader, Tanya Plibersek, said she was pleased Morrison had condemned the rally but “he also has to criticise Fraser Anning for attending a rally that’s been organised by people with a known record of seeking to divide Australians”. “What really concerns me is that this is a fellow that the government has to continue to rely on to get measures through the Senate,” Plibersek said. “He has voted with the government about 90% of the time.

A Reporter Detained: On Life Inside ICE Camps – IMM Print

The criminalization of those of us seeking political asylum has just begun. I asked Oscar for forgiveness for landing him in jail. My son’s response still reverberates in my ears: “We are together, we arrived together, and if we have to go back — we will go back together.” It was the response that today encourages me to return to my work with greater effort, a renewed commitment, stronger, and with more love and dedication.
