Who Owns Your Womb? Women Can Get Murder Charge for Refusing C-Sections | The Women’s International Perspective

When most women become pregnant, understandably they believe the choice of how they give birth will remain theirs; whether to deliver vaginally or through cesarean surgery or where to give birth, at home or at a hospital. Decades ago, those decisions were well within the domain of pregnant patients whose reproductive liberty and autonomy interests gained constitutional recognition in the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade.

After all, whose body is it anyway? But what may have seemed clear-cut decades ago, is now put to the test by doctors and lower courts.

Junk Miles: What?! Woman Arrested On A Run – Competitor.com

Runner sent to jail Thursday but later released. (Police should have joined in the jogging and lose weight rather than good sense)

A female runner in Austin, Texas, was arrested by local police on Thursday night after she was allegedly caught jaywalking. Although details are yet unclear, the event was caught on smartphone camera by a bystander. The Austin American-Statesman reported that police arrested the woman for not identifying herself.

According to the newspaper, police said Amanda Jo Stephen, 24, disregarded traffic signals at the intersection of West 24th and San Antonio streets as she was running. Officers tried to stop her, according to a police spokeswoman, but she was running with headphones and couldn’t hear them. When they finally stopped her, she “was resisting and wouldn’t provide identification,” the spokeswoman told the newspaper.

Stephen was taken to Travis County Jail but later released.

“I was sitting at the Starbucks at 24th and San Antonio,” said Chris Quintero, the bystander who caught the arrest on camera told The Daily Texan. “Then I hear a cop shout at an innocent girl jogging through West Campus with her headphones on. She repeatedly pleaded with them, saying that she was just exercising and to let her go.”

[India] With She-Toilets, Chennai shows way in sanitation | WNN – Women News Network

“This is also the first time Chennai Corporation has done a detailed survey and mapping of where public toilets are required and where the public oppose it,” said a senior corporation official. “Earlier the corporation would only ask the zonal engineer where to put up a toilet.” These 348 locations include bus stands, markets and open spaces.

The toilets will come as a relief to women who work outdoors all day such as vendors, construction workers and police officers. “We have to stand on the road for at least five hours while on bandobast duty,” said Leela Sri, a woman constable. “There are very few public toilets that we can use and most of them are filthy.” Leela, who has been on the job for 11 years, said she and her female colleagues are prone to urinary tract infections and fibroids. “If more of these toilets for women come up, the next generation of policewomen need not face such health problems,” she says. Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation recently introduced these toilets . . .

Mother attends daughter’s graduation in the dress that got her daughter sent home from school

Sadly, Central Davison is not the only school humiliating and slut-shaming its female students. As we’ve blogged about before, a Utah high school recently photo-shopped the year book photos of certain female students so their necklines would be higher and their sleeves would be longer. A school in Canada sent female students home for wearing tank tops that revealed their bra straps. Another student at a different school got sent home for the same bra-strap related infraction. Another–you guessed it–female student got sent home over the length of her shorts. And a 17-year old girl got sent home from a prom for provoking “impure thoughts.” The silver lining to this puritanical persecution is that some of the people being targeted are calling it out by making statements, putting up posters, and talking to the press.

Captivating Illustrations by Molly Mendoza – The Fox Is Black

Really loving the work of Molly Mendoza, a Portland based illustrator. Her work tends to be loose, sketchy, and abastract with lots of brush strokes that give each piece a wonderful character. I particularly like this series (though I’m not sure what it’s called) because of her choice of color palette. Not normally something I would lean toward but it really works when you see all of the pieces together.

Feministing Jamz Video of the Week: Ana Tijoux ft. Shadia Mansour – Somos Sur

The always amazing Feministing Jamz favorite Ana Tijoux is back with a new video for her track “Somos Sur” featuring Palestinian rapper Shadia Mansour. Talking global south unity and making connections between sovereignty for the indigenous peoples of the Americas and Palestinian sovereignty, this video is both visually and intellectually stunning. Don’t miss it.
