Boris Johnson wrongly denies stirring Turkey fears in Brexit campaign | Politics | The Guardian – He is a liar!

A week before referendum day in June 2016, Johnson and Michael Gove wrote a joint letter to David Cameron claiming that the government supported the idea of Turkish membership of the EU. “The public will draw the reasonable conclusion that the only way to avoid having common borders with Turkey is to vote leave and take back control on 23 June,” the letter stated. And during the BBC’s EU referendum debate, two days before the poll, Johnson said: “It’s government policy to accelerate Turkish accession.” A couple of weeks earlier, interviewed on the Andrew Marr Show, he said: “Frankly, I don’t mind whether Turkey joins the EU, provided the UK leaves the EU.”

Trump intensifies feud with Pelosi by calling off her trip abroad | US news | The Guardian

A White House official said all other Codels were being canceled while the government remained closed. Pelosi’s office countered that Trump traveled to Iraq during the shutdown, as did a Codel led by Republican representative Lee Zeldin. Trump’s abrupt decision took Pelosi’s congressional delegation by surprise, as some lawmakers were reportedly already sitting on a US air force bus outside the Capitol trying to determine if they should proceed with their travel plans. Even some of the president’s allies expressed frustration at his retaliatory action. “One sophomoric response does not deserve another,” said South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham, a usually reliably vocal Trump ally in recent months. “Speaker Pelosi’s threat to cancel the State of the Union is very irresponsible and blatantly political. President Trump denying Speaker Pelosi military travel to visit our troops in Afghanistan, our allies in Egypt and Nato is also inappropriate.”

ICE Withholding Double-Amputee’s Prosthetic Arm as He Awaits Deportation – No limit to ICE inhumanity!

“When he was tied up in the back of a transport vehicle, his prosthetic arm was damaged, and it was taken from him,” Perez said. “To this day, it has not yet been returned.” After his prosthetic leg was taken by ICE agents for repair, Valladares Diaz was given a crutch designed for use by elderly, two-legged people. Despite making numerous complaints, his leg was not returned to him for more than five months, and he was forced to use a wheelchair. In the meantime, he was written up for disciplinary violations after not being able to stand during head count. “When he didn’t get up to stand in line for counts, an officer wrote a complaint about him, even though he could be seen there lying in his bed, because he doesn’t have access to his leg,” Perez said. “He actually got a disciplinary complaint for not standing up in line for count!”

Canceled Pelosi trip was to visit U.S. troops in Afghanistan: spokesman – Number one national security leaker Donald Trump cancelled military plane and leaked her planned flight! #TraitorTrump

“The purpose of the trip was to express appreciation & thanks to our men & women in uniform for their service & dedication, & to obtain critical national security & intelligence briefings from those on the front lines,” Drew Hammill, Pelosi’s deputy chief of staff, said on Twitter. The congressional trip had not been announced for security reasons but Trump made it public in his letter canceling military transportation because of the partial government shutdown.

Steve King Still Has Backing in Iowa, but Even Supporters Say ‘He’s Done’ – The New York Times

Mike McCarville, a former Fort Dodge mayor, said that when it came to the many Latinos who work in meatpacking, construction and agriculture in the region, native-born Iowans could be “two-faced.’’ “All the farmers will bitch about all the Hispanics,” he said, “but they hire them and we can’t get along without them.” “If they accomplished what they say they want and just round them all up and ship them back, our economy would grind to a halt,” he added.

Interim MSU President John Engler Says Larry Nassar’s Victims Are Having A Blast In The “Spotlight”

The Detroit Metro Times highlighted Engler’s comment today, noting that when he was governor “Engler fought hard against a lawsuit brought by dozens of female inmates who had been raped by state corrections officers. Despite Engler’s efforts, it ended in what at the time was the largest payout in state history.” The chairwoman of the MSU Board of Trustees, Dianne Byrum, distanced the board from Engler’s statement in a statement to the Chronicle of Higher Education: “His remarks were ill advised and not helpful to the healing process, survivors, or the university.” In his interview with the Detroit News last week, Engler mentioned all the work that he has done so that the hypothetical next president of the university can take over the job and look ahead. Whether or not that’s even true—MSU has repeatedly bungled its handling of the Nassar investigation and ensuing fallout—it raises the question of why Engler, who was named interim president last February and has shown himself to be unfit as the university president time and again, has been allowed to remain at the helm for nearly a year.
