British Maj. Gen. Chris Ghika, however, has raised serious doubts about that. Maj. Gen. Ghika said that there has been “no increased threat from Iranian-backed forces,” despite the claims from US officials, mostly Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and John Bolton. Perhaps more damningly, Ghika says he does not believe there is any daylight between Britain’s assessment of “no increased threat” and the assessment from US intelligence. In other words, the US officials are lying about the intelligence, presumably to justify the growing US buildup and to keep hyping the possibility of a war with Iran. US Central Command, however, angrily shot back contradicting Ghika, insisting his statement runs counter to established US position on the matter.

The Guardian view on abortion: protecting a human right | Editorial | Opinion | The Guardian
Each day almost 70,000 unsafe abortions are carried out around the world, and they are vastly more likely to happen in countries with strict laws. What such legislation does do is force some women to continue pregnancies against their wishes, while risking the lives and wellbeing of others. Women in the US have seen their ability to terminate pregnancies dismantled piece by piece. Now states are racing to outlaw or dramatically curb abortions with extreme and unconstitutional bills. The aim is to directly challenge Roe v Wade, the US supreme court ruling that established that abortion is legal before the foetus is viable outside the womb, at around 24 weeks. Last Tuesday, the governor of Georgia signed a bill essentially banning abortions after six weeks from 2020. Some described it as a sign that men who wish to control women’s bodies have no idea of how they actually work. More likely, those who pushed hardest for the change understand all too well that many women will not know they are pregnant until it is too late.

US Withdrawal From Iran Nuclear Deal: One Year On | Inter Press Service
Regardless of its views about Iran’s regional policies and actions—or, indeed, about the policies and actions of its regional rivals such as Israel and Saudi Arabia—the US withdrawal from the JCPOA is ill-conceived and regrettable for many reasons. It undermines the value of multilateral diplomacy and raises questions about the sanctity and sustainability of interstate agreements. Furthermore, it challenges the authority of the UN Security Council, which has unanimously passed a resolution endorsing the JCPOA and calling on all UN member states as well as regional and international organizations to take action to support the agreement’s implementation. US withdrawal from the JCPOA risks seriously weakening trust and confidence in international institutions and arrangements that are essential parts of the global security architecture. In particular, the US action undermines the global effort for nuclear non-proliferation by sabotaging an important and effective anti-proliferation agreement. It is to be hoped that the remaining parties to the JCPOA will find ways to support its continued implementation.

From Sanctioning Iran to War?
To be clear-eyed about this danger, from all available evidence, the Iranian strategists are preparing to not fall into a US laid trap by acting first and provoking a US military response that will start a war. However, once they think that US is about to start bombing Iran, they will surely take what they consider to be appropriate asymmetric actions. And therein lies the dangers of a conflagaration that can easily get out of any great power’s control.
One Of The Top Voices For Women In Sports Doesn’t Think Caster Semenya Is A Woman – she is wrong!
Hogshead-Makar says that women like Semenya need to be kept out of competition to “give women’s bodies an equal opportunity to participate,” which isn’t true. I don’t recall seeing reports of women suddenly giving up track because of Semenya, although I do read stories about how Semenya has inspired young African girls. It’s the underfunding, sexual violence, and harassment that keep women out of sports, which Hogshead-Makar should know as she’s lobbied on those very issues. Hogshead-Makar talks a lot about how testosterone is key, but leaves out the many other factors that affect athletes’ performance, factors which are not regulated, as well as the many complicated ways testosterone acts in every person’s body. Hogshead-Makar also ignores or refuses to acknowledge that these new IAAF laws are clearly targeted at Semenya alone. Few things make this more obvious than the study which was commissioned to uphold the anti-Semenya rules: The study found that naturally occurring testosterone gave competitors some advantages in certain events, but noted that the biggest advantages were in the hammer and the pole vault—and for some reason the new testosterone limits don’t apply to the wom

HUD Proposes to Evict Citizens and Immigrants from Public Housing if They Have Undocumented Family Members : Immigration Impact
The new rule could affect as many as 32,000 people in mixed-status families who currently receive federal housing benefits. Those families would have to choose between eviction or breaking up the family. This puts at risk vulnerable Americans and immigrants who rely on these subsidies for their housing. HUD argues that these evictions will help reduce wait-lists for public housing, but many low-income housing advocates disagree. Very few, if any, apartments would open because many mixed-status families will opt to split up rather than lose their benefits completely. This is a mean-spirited attempt at addressing major issues with public housing, including long wait-lists and substandard housing conditions. In New York alone there are currently 209,180 people on line for public housing benefits, with an additional 148,000 on line for Section 8 housing. HUD’s proposed regulation has been sent to Congress for a 15 day review period before it is published for a 60 day public comment period.

Joe Biden Expresses Regret to Anita Hill, but She Says ‘I’m Sorry’ Is Not Enough – The New York Times – Took 28 years to apologize? Too little, too late… Time’sUpJoe!
Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. called Anita Hill earlier this month to express his regret over “what she endured” testifying against Justice Clarence Thomas at the 1991 Supreme Court hearings that put a spotlight on sexual harassment of women, according to a spokeswoman for Mr. Biden. But Ms. Hill, in an interview Wednesday, said she left the conversation feeling deeply unsatisfied and declined to characterize his words to her as an apology. She said she is not convinced that Mr. Biden truly accepts the harm he caused her and other women who suffered sexual harassment and gender violence.
