Memorial Day 2019 – President Trump visiting Japan

Pacific War – US casualties and deaths 1941-1945

There were some 426,000 American casualties: 161,000 dead (including 111,914 in battle and 49,000 non-battle), 248,316 wounded, and 16,358 captured (not counting POWs who died).[162][163] Material losses were 188+ warships including 5 battleships, 11 aircraft carriers, 25 cruisers, 84 destroyers and destroyer escorts, and 63 submarines, plus 21,255 aircraft.

On 7 December 1941, 2,403 non-combatants (2,335 neutral military personnel and 68 civilians) were killed and 1,247 wounded during the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. Because the attack happened without a declaration of war or explicit warning, it was judged by the Tokyo Trials to be a war crime.[195][196]

During the Pacific War, Japanese soldiers killed millions of non-combatants, including prisoners of war, from surrounding nations.[197] At least 20 million Chinese died during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945).

Deaths of Migrant Children Reflect Inhuman Detention Conditions | La Prensa San Diego

The recent deaths of Guatemalan children in migrant detention centers in the United States and Mexico are “the most forceful expression that these places generate cruel and inhuman conditions, where life itself seems to be the least important”, said Rafael Alonso Hernández, coordinator of the migration studies doctoral program at Tijuana’s Colegio de la Frontera Norte institute.

Donald Trump is Very Invested in Painting Nancy Pelosi as Frail and Failing – “Trump using obviously faked video!”

The Fox Business clip came shortly after another widely circulated—and doctored—video of Pelosi, which was slowed down by 25 percent and voice manipulated to make it appear that she was slurring her words to imply that she was drunk. (As Pelosi’s daughter Christine dryly noted on Twitter, her mom doesn’t even drink.) The video quickly spread through conservative, rightwing social media accounts on Thursday, racking up millions of views and tens of thousands of comments. In a tweet that has since been deleted, human piranha Rudy Giuliani posted the video and asked, “What is wrong with Nancy Pelosi? Her speech pattern is bizarre.” (On Friday morning, Giuliani attempted to apologize for sharing the video in a tweet that is riddled with spelling and grammatical errors and is certainly… something.)

Ben Carson is Either a Liar or an Idiot or Both

HUD’s move on Wednesday was widely criticized by advocates. “It completely guts the Equal Access Rule,” said Mara Keisling, Executive Director of the National Center for Transgender Equality, to the Washington Post. “The Trump administration is, once again, targeting the most vulnerable trans people by empowering shelters to turn people away and deny them equal access to services.” But it’s perfectly in line with the Trump administration’s attacks on the rights of trans people.

Austrian vice-chancellor resigns over secret video footage | World news | The Guardian

In the video, Strache, whose party’s first leader was a former SS officer, also ponders the part-privatisation of Austria’s public broadcaster, saying it should be more like the pro-government mouthpiece state media has become in neighbouring Hungary. He also appeared to suggest political donations might be made through a foundation with links to the FPO rather than the party itself, apparently in order to escape legal scrutiny.

Release unjustly detained pastor and grandmother | Faithful America

ICE agents forced their way into Betty Rendón’s home with guns drawn, “violently” shook her husband, and were reportedly “jubilant” after the arrest.   Pastor Rendón, who fled to the U.S. from Colombia after armed guerrillas attacked the school where she taught, now serves a church in Wisconsin as a student pastor while studying for her doctorate. Her bishop says the Rendóns have “been a blessing to every community that they’ve ever been a part of.”   Local religious leaders just held an interfaith prayer vigil outside the detention center where Pastor Rendón is being held, and national Lutheran leaders have called on federal officials to release her from detention.
