Open Thread | Andy Slavitt Trying To Warn Us

Giving companies a free hand needs to be called out for what it is: permission to kill people with no consequences! An inhuman proposal by someone who has sold his humanity as Cain did.

Yet again, Mr. Slavitt is dropping truth. Keep your eyes open.   Mitch McConnell will not pass any more Congressional aid for Americans losing income…

Canadian pastor charged in Myanmar for defying COVID-19 restriction on gatherings | CBC News

In one video posted in late March, Lah tells worshippers, “If you hear the sermon of God, the virus will never come to you; I declare it with the soul of Jesus Christ.

At another event in April, Lah waved around a Bible and said, “I can guarantee that the church that goes by Jesus’ teachings, there will be no infection.”

The irony of the message in those sermons became apparent when police made their move to lay charges, because the document that spelled out his alleged offence also revealed Lah could not immediately be arrested because he was in hospital.

Lah had tested positive for the coronavirus.

As of Friday, according to Worldometer aggregated data, Myanmar had 181 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including six deaths. Local health authorities link at least two of those deaths to Lah’s gatherings in early April.

Invisible deaths: from nursing homes to prisons, the corona toll is out of sight – and out of mind? | US news | The Guardian

The segregation of Covid deaths out of town and behind locked doors, where most Americans cannot see them, has provided a political boon for Donald Trump. It has allowed the president to downplay the significance of the virus for weeks on end, pushing for the reopening of the economy even though it risks the lives of tens of thousands of largely poor and black and Latino citizens.

That phenomenon was on full display this week when Trump scolded his top infectious diseases official, Dr Anthony Fauci, for saying opening up the country could risk a spike of new infections. Trump said of Fauci’s science-based, factual remark: “To me, it’s not an acceptable answer” – a claim he could never have got away with had the human costs of Covid-19 been more visible.
