Ice sheet collapse 135,000 years ago to help scientists explain dramatic climate changes – ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

“On the contrary at the end of the penultimate ice age 135,000 years ago, dramatic melting of the Northern Hemisphere ice sheets [meant they] were releasing enough fresh water into the North Atlantic to impact the ocean’s circulations and to cause climate change to both the north Atlantic and in the Southern Ocean.”

O.C. Kids Sick After Drinking Fancy, Unpasteurized Raw Goat Milk: LAist

Public health officials told the OC Register that the children got campylobacteriosis infection from Claravale Farm’s raw goat milk. Even one of the kids had to be hospitalized. The symptoms aren’t pleasant: they include diarrhea, cramping, abdominal pain, vomiting and fever. And people usually get the symptoms within two to five days of getting in contact with the organism. The illness is often associated with unpasteurized dairy products and water, and mostly affects young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems.

It’s not just the SoCal kids, though, who were affected by the farm’s raw milk. Six NorCal folks were diagnosed with the sickness in March after drinking raw milk from the same Paicines farm, according to Free Lance, a San Benito County news site. After the state investigated Claravale Farms, they forced the owners to do a mandatory recall, telling everyone to get rid of all Claravale Farms products with the “March 28” expiration date.

No oil hunt in South China Sea without nod: Beijing to Delhi – The Times of India

“Any oil and gas exploration work should get approval first from China,” said a top official of China’s ministry of foreign affairs (MFA). The official added that pending the final settlement of territorial disputes in South China Sea, China would encourage “joint development” in the region.

The official made the remark in reply to a query from TOI in a recent meeting – facilitated by the US-based East-West Center – with a group of international journalists. The meeting took at a time of fresh acrimony between the US and China over Beijing’s reclamation and island building in South China Sea. According to US authorities, China has reclaimed 1,500 acres in the Spratly island chain in the past 5 months alone by dredging sand.

Hamilton school garden continues to grow | www.journal-news.com

This year, younger students were paired up with “Garden Buddies” in older grades for the Secret Salad Seeds project. Each group was designated a square in a bed to plant a seed and observe it throughout its growing process. Students maintained a garden journal where they documented their observations, measurements and characteristics to come up with predictions about what plant they believed they were growing. They were also given clues throughout the six weeks.

On Monday, the kindergarten students through sixth graders harvested their plants, separating them into their designated bins.
