Indigenous Resistance: Whistleblower: US erased records of Native American remains
A combination of budget cuts and the low priority assigned by Reclamation managers caused NAGPRA responsibilities to fall by the wayside, according to Patrick Williams, a former Museum Specialist in Archeology at the Mid-Pacific Regional Office in Sacramento, California, PEER said.
As a result, Reclamation –
Ceased detailed cataloging of new remains and death rite relics discovered, leaving collections boxed up in storage;
Did not keep track of collections on loan to museums and universities; and
Routinely failed to notify tribes of ancestral recoveries, thus blocking any chance of repatriating ancestral remains, one of the main purposes of NAGPRA.

Spin City News! DARPA taps Lawrence Livermore to develop world’s first neural device to restore memory — ScienceDaily
Fanciful? Yes. Why? So it looks as they are doing something about brain trauma. What about the money? Ever heard of camel’s nose under the tent? $2.5 million does not buy anything anymore but then you add $110 million, and then, $500 million and then…
The Department of Defense’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) awarded Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) up to $2.5 million to develop an implantable neural device with the ability to record and stimulate neurons within the brain to help restore memory, DARPA officials announced this week.
Clear differences between organic and non-organic food, study finds | Environment | The Guardian
Organic food has more of the antioxidant compounds linked to better health and lower levels of toxic metals and pesticides, according to the most comprehensive scientific analysis to date.
The international scientific team behind the new work suggests that switching from regular to organic fruit and vegetables could give the same benefits as adding one or two portions of the “five a day” currently recommended.
The team, led by Prof Carlo Leifert at the University of Newcastle, concludes that there are “statistically significant, meaningful” differences, with a range of antioxidants being “substantially higher” – between 19% and 69% – in organic food. It is the first study to demonstrate clear and wide-ranging differences between organic and conventional fruits, vegetables and cereals.

Exhibition on Nazi Occupation in the Works | News | ERR
For the first time, the Estonian History Museum will curate an exhibition on the Nazi occupation and its devastating effects on Estonian Jewish community.
A prominent place in the exhibition is given to the memories of Isidor Levin, 95 – the last living Jew who survived the Nazi occupation in Estonia, ETV reported on Wednesday.
Although the Nazi occupation during the Second World War was brief, it is a sensitive subject, said Olev Liivik, a researcher and curator at the museum, adding that the upcoming exhibition is the first of its kind in Estonia.

Killing of Palestinian Youth Puts an Israeli Focus on Extremism – NYTimes.com
Tamir Lion, an anthropologist who studies youth, said he was troubled by the changing attitudes among Israel’s young people. For many years, Mr. Lion interviewed soldiers about why they chose to enter combat units. “The answers,” he said on Israel Radio, “were always about the challenge, to show I could make it, the prestige involved.”

That began to change in 2000, he said. “I started to get answers — not a lot, but some — like: ‘To kill Arabs.’ The first time I heard it, it was at the time of the large terror attacks, and since then it has not stopped.”
A generation has grown up in a period of Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with suicide bombs and military incursions, rocket fire and airstrikes. Young people on both sides may think about the other more as an enemy than as a neighbor.
Mr. Lion, head of research at the Ethos Institute, said he was troubled. “Today I can say, and everyone who works with youth will say it, Jewish youth in Israel hate Arabs without connection to their parents or their own party affiliation and their own political opinions.”

US Military officers’ testimony undermines Benghazi ‘stand down’ theory
Do the math folks!
Military officials differ on when that telephone conversation took place, but they agree that no help could have arrived in Benghazi in time. They put the call somewhere between 5:05 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. local time. It would take about 90 minutes to fly from Tripoli to Benghazi. The next U.S.-chartered plane to make the trip left at 6:49 a.m., meaning it could have arrived shortly before 9 a.m., nearly four hours after the second, 11-minute battle at the CIA facility ended at about 5:25 a.m.
