Mean and hateful – just because they have the power! Israeli soldiers set fire to olive trees in Hebron | Maan News Agency

Israeli soldiers set fire to Palestinian-owned olive trees near the illegal settlement of Kiryat Arba in Hebron late Thursday.

Witnesses told Ma’an that Israeli soldiers deployed in the area pushed a burning tire into an area of olive trees, causing severe damage.

Local Palestinians called the fire brigade to extinguish the blaze but were prevented from arriving in the area by Israeli forces.

Cynical? Me? Yep. The latest American doctor infected with Ebola is heading to Nebraska for treatment – The Washington Post

{The reason for transferring him from Massachusetts to Nebraska? So University of Nebraska Medical Center could get some publicity – aka: create public “currency” for same or more funding from governments (tax payers) and foundations. If just to give “better” care, why have a press conference}

The Nebraska hospital expects Sacra to arrive Friday morning. The Biocontainment Patient Care Unit is one of four of its kind in the United States, according to the hospital, and is the country’s largest. “We have been preparing for this type of event for a long time,” Jeffrey Gold, chancellor of the University of Nebraska Medical Center, said during a Thursday news conference. “It is not a surprise we are being called to serve in this way.”

Phil Smith, head of the special isolation unit at the Nebraska Medical Center, said that Sacra is in “reasonably stable shape, and able to get on the plane under his own power.”

Sacra, the medical director of the organization’s ELWA Hospital in Monrovia, decided to return to Liberia after another missionary doctor and another volunteer became ill with Ebola, Johnson said. Sacra had been working in the hospital for about a month, most recently caring for pregnant women.

USDA to Buy Up to $13M in Canned Pink Salmon

While the government is only buying a portion of what the governor requested, it’s still significant, said Bruce Schactler, food aid program coordinator for the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute. He estimated it at well over 300,000 cases, which will help the industry and provide stock to food banks.

Schactler said Wednesday that the purchase won’t wipe out the glut, but Parnell’s request would not have done it either. There was enough canned product at the end of 2013 to last for three years, he said.

Shellshocked Ukrainians Flee to a New Life in Russia – NYTimes.com

She traced with her index finger an imaginary railroad into the Russian heartland, through the black earth of southern Russia, across the Volga River and into the industrial towns that dot the Ural Mountains a thousand miles away.

She was searching, with difficulty, for her new home.

“Young man,” she asked, “where is Perm?”

{2,352 km from the Ukraine is what Russia is offering Ukrainians falling for offers of housing, job, pensions, and possible citizenship. Not a good bargain.}

More than a million Ukrainians have been displaced because of the war, the United Nations said in a recent report, and hundreds of thousands of them have found their way into Russia. Faced with that influx, Russia is promoting a huge resettlement program and encouraging refugees to put down roots in far-flung cities across the country.

What Lebanese Christians Need Above All Right Now

A Separate State of Mind | A Blog by Elie Fares

Spotted in Achrafieh Spotted in Achrafieh

“We came to slaughter you, Cross worshipers,” is the sentence that made headline news in Lebanon a couple of days ago, as the people of the Northern city Al-Mina woke up to find it branded on one of their Churches. It came a day after Crosses were burned in Ain el Helwe and “the Islamic State is coming” was drawn up on other Churches in the country.

As a natural consequence to such exciting development, the news cycle will now go as follows:

1) Insert priest from Church in question spewing hate,
2) Insert local Christian lamenting about being threatened and being afraid,
3) Insert Muslim figure saying they do not support the graffiti,
4) Insert some high ranking figure saying they’re opening an investigation,
5) Insert pictures of personnel wiping the graffiti away, followed by political analysts salivating over the golden goose: the start of Christian…
