“Obviously there is a person, or a group of people behind this that were essentially terrorising me,” she said. “I don’t want to sound alarming, but certainly that’s how I felt. It’s one thing if someone comes into your house and steals a painting off your wall: that’s also a violation, but, your work, as an artist, that’s devastating.

“I’m an artistic person, I’m very expressive. I’m sorry if words alarm people, but that’s what it felt like. It was not a consensual agreement. I did not say ‘hey, here’s my music, and it’s finished.’ It was theft.”

Flash – Turkey student arrested for ‘insulting’ the president – France 24

A 16-year-old high school student has been arrested in central Turkey for “insulting” President Recep Tayyip Erdogan by accusing him and his ruling party of corruption, local media reported on Thursday.

The young boy, identified by his initials MEA, was believed to be a member of a leftist organisation, the Hurriyet newspaper reported.

He was delivering a speech on Wednesday in the central Anatolian city of Konya, a bastion of Erdogan’s Islamic-rooted Justice and Development Party (AKP), in memory of a young secular teacher killed by Islamists in 1930, according to the newspaper.

The boy is now facing up to four years in prison if convicted on the charge.

Bird flu: No chickening out, 5,000 feast on curry – Hindustan Times

Health or Profit? Profit hunger wins over health need!

More than 5,000 people queued up to feast on free chicken curry and boiled eggs at the Sector-21 market on Wednesday, after the Chandigarh Meat Market Welfare Association distributed these ‘delicacies’, to spread the word that it was safe to consume non-vegetarian dishes in this season of Christmas and New Year festivities.

By the end of the day, over 300-kg cooked chicken and 10,000 eggs had been consumed.

Atul Sonkar, president of the association, said, “The winter is peak business season for us. This unnecessary scare of bird flu has hit sales and people are scared to buy chicken and eggs. By organising this meat fair (mela), we want to send out a message that people can continue to consume these items.”

Leading Light: Beguiled By Beginnings – Day 24

Advent is all about waiting. Don’t wait. Don’t let life happen to you. Don’t be everybody else. Take the road less travelled. Write your own story. It’ll be unconventional and uncomfortable. Sometimes (a lot of times) it’ll require bloody hard work. But tomorrow, for a great many of you, it’ll be a day off. Of celebration and relaxation. With friends and family. Amongst all the turkey and trimmings take a moment to reflect. It might not be too late. Advent ends today but your story could be just beginning.

BREAKING! Nigel Farage not real – parody created by sixth formers

Pride's Purge

(satire?)

In a surprise announcement, a group of sixth formers in Canterbury have admitted UKIP leader Nigel Farage is not actually real and that they created him as part of a phone app’ parodying right-wing politicians.

The app’  – which features a character called ‘Nigel’ who resides in a BBC TV studio and likes to kick women who don’t clean behind the fridge off the White Cliffs of Dover – was developed by a group of five 18-year-olds at the Canterbury Academy who work under the name FonGames.

The school’s principal Phil Karnavas however, expressed surprise that some people could believe the blazer-wearing, authoritarian, neo-Thatcherite character ‘Nigel’ – who pretends he’s a libertarian despite not liking foreigners and homosexuals much – was real.

In a statement Mr Karnavas said:

Obviously ‘Nigel’ is a parody. I mean for heaven’s sake, he’s a public school, white, middle-class, city trader from Kent who pretends he is an anti-establishment outsider and thinks the UK can…

Fox station edited video of Eric Garner protesters to make it sound like they were chanting ‘kill a cop’ – Americas – World – The Independent

She said: “What really gets to me is where you edited it and stopped. Like, how could that be a mistake?”

The blunder made by Fox45 follows the death of two NYPD police officers, Rafael Ramos and Liu Wenjin, who were shot dead by gunman Ismaaiyl Brinsley while sitting in a police patrol car on Saturday afternoon. {no blunder – intentional political and racist propaganda from FOX!}

“My community needs the cops. Nobody deserves to be brutally murdered, so that hurt me,” Ms Jones continued in explaining that the real version of the chant actually meant that she believes everyone should be held accountable for their actions.

Ms Jones said that she complained to Fox after her ex-partner, a police officer himself, had alerted her to the gross misrepresentation that was being shown across the US and also worldwide.

wtf! How could this be happening without thousands on the streets! Trending: Prosecutions of Pregnant Women Continue in Wisconsin | National Women’s Law Center

How do you care for a pregnant woman with a history of drug use? Well, according to Wisconsin, you throw her in jail and administer no prenatal care. You deny all her requests to keep scheduled prenatal visits. When she experiences stress-induced cramping, you require her to visit a doctor who is not an OB-GYN. When she refuses to take a pregnancy test, you toss her in solitary confinement and threaten her with a taser. When she fears she will miscarry, you tell her “there [is] nothing [you can] do about it anyway.”

As ruthless as it sounds, this is exact treatment Tamara Loerstcher, a pregnant woman in Wisconsin, endured after doing the right thing and admitting prior drug use to her doctor, even though she had already stopped using drugs when she suspected she could be pregnant.

While drug use during pregnancy is a serious public health concern, it should not be handled as a criminal matter. Nonetheless, Wisconsin’s fetal protection law, also known as the “cocaine mom” law, gives the state power to detain any pregnant woman who is using drugs. Although Tamara was not using drugs, she was thrown into jail for 17 days for refusing treatment.

Sadly, Tamara’s ordeal is not just bad luck. In Tennessee, for example, a pregnant woman can now spend up to 15 years in prison for pregnancy complications after she has used illegal drugs. Throughout the rest of the country, hundreds of women have been arrested on pregnancy-related charges and new arrests occur each week.
